Can’t change difficulty in God of War Ragnarok – Easy Bug Fix

Many players have reported a bug regarding the difficulty they’ve chosen in God of War Ragnarok. If you’re having an issue where you can’t change the difficulty of the game after selecting it, then you’re not the only one. God of War Ragnarok offers five difficulty levels to players depending on how challenging they want the experience to be. But when players try to change the difficulty later in the game, they cannot.

The five difficulty levels are:

  • Give Me Story
  • Give Me Grace
  • Give Me Balance
  • Give Me No Mercy
  • Give Me God of War

If you pick the highest difficulty level, which is Give Me God of War, then you should know that you can change the difficulty from it to other levels but then cannot go back to it. The bug prevents players from selecting another difficulty level later in the game when the game is becoming too challenging for them.

There are two methods to possibly fix this issue since an official fix isn’t out yet. You can either press the touchpad and select the difficulty you want or you can reboot your console and relaunch the game to see if it’s working. We’ll explain the methods in a detailed way below:

Method 1

Some players have reported that pressing the touchpad and then changing the difficulty has solved the issue for them. Try to perform this fix and it should resolve the issue. If it doesn’t fix the issue, then proceed onto the next method.

Method 2

Whenever there’s a bug in a single-player game, rebooting the console and restarting the game fixes the issue almost all the time, so it might not be different for God of War Ragnarok. Try to reboot your console and relaunch the game and then try to change the difficulty.

If that doesn’t fix the issue, then I suggest waiting for an official patch to roll out from Santa Monica which fixes this issue. God of War Ragnarok is a really well-made game but there are still some minor bugs here and there like this one and I’m sure they’ll be addressed and fixed in the upcoming days. For now, there’s no fix other than the one mentioned above.
