The war devil made its grand entry in chapter 98 of Chainsaw Man titled “Bird and War.”
The madness is back after a long while, and Fujimoto dives right into it without wasting any time. It was well-paced and fun. Those sudden twists and the trademark blood bath made it worth a re-read.
This first chapter of this new arc had lots of blood but no Denji. It was pretty disappointing not to see him as I was awaiting his entry, hoping he was also sitting among those students.
Now he has a new villain to deal with, and this one may be even crazier than Makima. The ride has started, and it is hard to keep calm.

We see a teacher introducing his class to the chicken devil named Bucky. The teacher tells the class that after three months, they are going to kill and eat Bucky. He is doing this so that the students learn about the importance of life.
Bucky starts getting involved with everyone around except for one girl, Asa Mitaka. She doesn’t seem to be interested in anything happening around her and wishes for everyone to die. The class president approaches her and tries to start a conversation with her.
She eats her lunch with Asa. Asa sees the Chainsaw Man bun in the president’s hand and thinks that the city is corrupt. She wished for Bucky and the Chainsaw Man to hurry up and die.
With time, the class blends in more with Bucky. He entertains them, and they laugh a lot at his shenanigans. Asa seems to be uninterested in all of this. On the day for Bucky to die, the class president announces that the class has decided not to kill Bucky as he is their friend and no longer a devil.
Everyone is elated, and they go out to play soccer. Asa is angry with them. At that moment, Bucky approaches her calling out her name. She is shocked to see that he knows her name as only the teacher and class president knew her name. She realizes that she is the one who has been jealous of everyone around her.
She starts to walk with Bucky in her hands. She trips and falls, killing Bucky in the process. Everyone is shocked, and they cry and weep for him. She feels guilty for what she did and wants to die.
One day the teacher and class president show up at her house and tell her to go to Bucky’s grave. If they beg together, maybe Bucky will forgive them.
While crossing the road, Asa stops because of the red light. The president tells her to ignore that and come, but the teacher sides with Asa for following the traffic rules.
Seeing this, the class president gets angry and starts turning into a monster. She is frustrated that even though the teacher has an intimate relationship with her, he always takes Asa’s side and likes her. So she made a contract with the justice devil to find a way for the teacher and her to have a happy ending.
She was the one who tripped Asa, causing Bucky’s death. She attacks Asa, but Asa is relieved that she was not the cause of Bucky’s death. However, she wishes that she might have lived a little more selfishly.
At that moment, an owl appears out of nowhere and tells her to give him her body if she wants to live. The class president is shocked to see her stand up again. Asa takes the teacher’s neck and makes Tanaka Spinal Cord Sword out of it (the teacher’s name was Tanaka).
She becomes the war devil. She brutally murders the class president, also giving her the happy ending she wanted. She is now going to come for Chainsaw Man.
6. About Chainsaw Man
Chainsaw Man is a manga series by Tatsuki Fujimoto that was serialized from December 2018-2020 and returned in July 2022 with a second part. The series also received an anime series by MAPPA.
The manga’s plot revolves around Denji, an orphaned boy who has to work as a devil hunter to make a living and pay off his father’s debt.
However, his pet devil, Pochita is killed on a mission. Denji wakes up to realize he and Pochita have become a single being, Chainsaw Man. If he does not want to get killed, he has to join the government and continue hunting demons.
