CDPR Has “No Plans” to Make Witcher 4 an Epic Games Store Exclusive

Projekt Red sent fans into a frenzy after announcing that the next title in the Witcher series is currently in development. While not a lot has been revealed about the upcoming game, CDPR did confirm that it will run on Epic’s Unreal Engine 5 instead of the studio’s own REDengine.

As soon as this strategic partnership with Epic Games was declared, a major concern about the game’s exclusivity swallowed the fandom.

Given that CDPR’s global PR Director, Radek Grabowski, talked about a long-term partnership with Epic Games, enthusiasts worried that this union would make The Witcher 4 an Epic Game Store exclusive. Thankfully, all the distressed fans can rest easy as that is not the case.

As revealed by the official Twitter page of The Witcher, there are no plans to make the upcoming title “exclusive to one storefront.” This means that despite CDPR’s association with Epic Games, The Witcher 4 will not be an Epic Store exclusive and will be available to purchase on Steam/GOG as well.

Talking about the partnership with Epic, Paweł Zawodny, CTO of CD Projekt Red, said,

From the outset, we did not consider a typical licensing arrangement; both we and Epic see this as a long-term, fulfilling tech partnership. It is vital for CD PROJEKT RED to have the technical direction of our next game decided from the earliest possible phase as; in the past, we spent a lot of resources and energy to evolve and adapt REDengine with every subsequent game release. This cooperation is so exciting, because it will elevate development predictability and efficiency, while simultaneously granting us access to cutting-edge game development tools. I can’t wait for the great games we’re going to create using Unreal Engine 5!

In other The Witcher 4 news, many believe that Geralt would unlikely be the protagonist this time around. Given that the franchise has used the “A New Saga begins” tagline with the teaser image, there is a chance that CDPR is turning the steering wheel towards a new direction with its forthcoming title.

About The Witcher 4

The Witcher 4 is a placeholder name for an upcoming game from CD Projekt Red based in The Witcher universe. It has been labeled as a new saga and will most likely not feature Geralt of Rivia as the protagonist.
