Ms. Marvel Episode 5: The Time Travel Puzzle

Episode 5 of Ms. Marvel showcased time travel, but it still remains obscure as a concept to us. The logic behind this seems quite vague and is so far unexplained. At the end of it all, one of the most critical questions we have is, does Kamala actually have the power to travel through time?

It isn’t confirmed if Kamala possesses the superpower of time travel or if it was a one-time event. Aisha used the power of her Noor while dying to summon Kamala to return Sana to her father.

Episode 4 of Ms. Marvel ends with Najma trying to stab Kamala. However, she blocks the attack with the bangle, and two things happen. First, there’s a sudden blast of energy, and second, Kamala immediately gets transported to 1947.

Episode 5 begins with a flashback to 1942. We see Aisha running away from a British soldier with the bangle on her wrist, and this is right after she separates from Najma.

I’m going to skip the complete story and jump right to the night when Aisha, her daughter, and her husband Hasan decided to move to Pakistan on the last train. Najma had found out where Aisha had been hiding with the bangle for so long.

In fact, when Najma mentioned it, Aisha didn’t even seem interested in returning to the realm of Noor. So, when the family of three is at the station trying to escape to Pakistan, Aisha spots Najma following them.

Najma stabs her for turning her back on her family and their mission. Meanwhile, Sana gets lost in the crowd, and Hasan calls out her name, but can’t seem to find her in the humungous crowd.

Aisha musters up all the energy she has left in her, looks at the family photo, and summons Kamala. This is essentially how Kamala got transported to the past. Kamala somehow saves the young Sana, as described in the previous episode, and helps her return to her father. After this event, Kamala returns to the present.

Now, the problem is we don’t know how exactly Kamala traveled through time. Was it Aisha using the last of the Noor within her body? Was it the bangle that made it possible, so anyone wearing the bangle would be able to travel through time?

Sadly, the answer remains unknown. There’s still a lot of clarity required in terms of how the bangle functions, how the ClanDestine function, and how the Noor really works as the source of power.

Hopefully, we’ll get more answers in the final episode. The season finale of Ms. Marvel releases next week Wednesday, and we might reach a resolution for a few things if not all.
