Cinderella’s Trailer Reveals A Fairy Tale Different From The Original

Cinderella will grace our screens on September 3 as an Amazon Prime exclusive. The new trailer shows us that while we may be acquainted with the tale of Cinderella, this modern take starring Camila Cabello in her first feature will be a breath of fresh air.

The trailer delights with quirky dialogue, beguiling outfits and silver tunes sung by Cabello herself. Watch the newest trailer, dated August 3.

The trailer begins with the set-up of the original fairy tale — Cabello’s Cinderella is confined to a life of hardships, living with her step-mother and step-sisters who have no qualms at casting her away at the first sight of predicament.

Then, as the trailer emboldens, comes “the story we don’t know.” Cinderella is an industrious seamstress who dreams of having their own clothing line one day. Being a woman, her business endeavors are not taken seriously.

Despite her step-family’s attempts, she manages to hitch an entry into the royal ball, courtesy of Billy Porter’s genderless godparent. Here, she hopes to present her dresses for the perusal of the best of the best.

And what have you? Cinderella even manages to catch the eye of Prince Robert.

A key difference from the canon, as well as Disney’s 2015 rendition, is that Cabello’s Cinderella demands more agency for herself and her ambitions, as she refuses to abscond with Prince Charming straight away.

This would pose an intriguing question of what Happily Ever After means for the movie.

Along with Cabello and Porter, the trailer gives us a glimpse of all the major characters: Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Robert, Idina Menzel as Cinderella’s stepmother, and Maddie Baillio and Charlotte Spencer as the Stepsisters.

Of course, with all the animated animals, the three mice that are reformed into Cinderella’s footmen will be played by James Acaster, James Corden and Romesh Ranganathan.

Cinderella was initially meant for the big screens but due to delays and the pandemic, has now been redirected as an Amazon Prime exclusive which will only debut digitally. Add it to your watchlist for September 3.
