2. Episode 4 Speculation

Akutagawa was beheaded in one swift slice by Fukuchi using his Amenogozen. There is little to no possibility of him being brought back from this since there is no opportunity for reinforcements in the middle of the Ocean.

This leaves Atsushi alone with Fukuchi, and he has no choice but to escape somehow. Because Amenogozen can traverse space and time, Atsushi running away is very unlikely. Fukuchi has already established that both must die here since they know Kamui’s identity.

Considering this, they will only get out by killing Fukuchi. With Akutagawa taken out, Atsushi’s only chance of winning is by somehow stealing and using the magic page before he can kill him.

3. Recap of Episode 3

Two weeks before the Decay of Angels attack, Dazai had a secret meeting with Akutagawa in the forest. He had asked him to be his eyes during the events of the next couple of months but not to interfere or be detected by either side of the battle.

However, he spots a smoke signal that gives him the green light to enter Atsushi’s fight. He drops to the dock and wastes no time attacking Fukuchi, destroying the ship’s engine. Dazai had chosen Akutagawa for this situation as he had foreseen his potential against the Devil.

Akutagawa enables Tenma Tengai while Fukuchi wields nothing but a metal rod. He manages to evade the first couple of swings with enhanced agility, but he’s still far outclassed. Atsushi grabs him as they escape to a lower basement of the ship, where he explains Dazai’s strategy to kill Fukuchi.

He transfers his Kokko Zessou ability to Atsushi, claws that could kill even a God in one hit. They decide to lure him underwater, where their mobility is hindered, but Fukuchi is multiple steps ahead. Raised on the battlefield, Fukuchi has experienced battle his entire life and proves it in this fight.

Fukuchi brings out a mythical katana that traverses space-time, stabbing Akutagawa and Atsushi without moving from his spot. Even after being stabbed, the two refuse to give up and die. Seeing some potential in Akutagawa, Fukuchi offers him a way out.

If Akutagawa were to turn on Atsushi and kill him right now, Fukuchi says he would agree to take him on as a student. He agrees to the offer but uses it against him to launch an ambush attack when Fukuchi drops his guard. Atsushi uses Kokko Zessou in one clean motion and kills the war demon swiftly.

He dies instantly, and Atsushi retrieves the missing page. However, the battle hasn’t ended yet, as Fukuchi has yet another ace up his sleeve. Using the space-time sword Amenogozen, he traverses time, cuts Atsushi’s arm off in the past, and changes the present.

Akutagawa refuses to go out without a fight and uses his ability to bring a fire extinguisher from the ship’s deck, launching a smokescreen. Fukuchi traverses time once more and stops his surprise attack. Deciding to end things quickly, he beheads Akutagawa with the blade.
