Andy Samberg to Voice Scarlet Spider in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

The sequel to the Oscar-awarded Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is set to hit theatres on June 2, 2023. Titled Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the computer-animated film features the superhero Spider-Man a.k.a Miles Morales.

The movie is set in a shared multiverse of alternate universes called the Spider-Verse and will see Miles go on an adventure with Gwen Stacy across it, where he meets a new team of Spider-People known as the Spider-Society. However, he gets into conflict with them over handling the latest threat.

The film was planned to release in April 2022; however, the CoViD pandemic pushed the release to more than a year later, and the latest news is that Brooklyn Nine-Nine fame – our very own Jake Peralta – Andy Samberg is up to voice an essential character in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse!

Andy Samberg was announced to have joined the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse cast via Instagram by The Lonely Island, which Samberg is a member of. Recent reports have also revealed that he will voice Scarlet Spider, one of the Spider-variants in the film.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will feature several Spider-variants

Scarlet Spider is one of the more famous Spider-variants in the DC Comics. Also known as Ben Reilly, he was a clone developed by Professor iles Warren, aka Jackal, in The Amazing Spider-Man #149. Though designed to seek revenge on Peter Parker, he chooses to become a hero.

Ben Reilly’s name comes from the name of Peter Parker’s uncle, Ben Parker, and his Aunt May’s maiden name, Reilly. Jackal created him as he blamed Peter for Gwen Stacy’s death.

The character has one of the most controversial journeys in the comics but is finally on the good side. He has the same powers as Spider-Man and has the Spider-sense.

Andy Samberg is rumored to voice the character in the upcoming movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. According to One Take News, several sources have confirmed the same. The character has been claimed to be a secondary supporting character in the film and could have a more prominent role in the threequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
