Brandon Routh has been a part of Legends of Tomorrow for the last six years as Atom/ Ray Palmer and is now leaving the show. Season five of the show is yet to air and has been in production since pre July this year. On the last day of shooting, the actor took to Instagram to share some behind-the-scenes snaps from his last day on set along with a moving message.
The images showcase the gifts the cast and crew gave him for his ‘golden wrap’ – including the puppet Ray from season 4. The caption he posted reads as follows:
My final day of filming with my #LegendsFamily. I love you all & appreciate the five seasons we’ve spent together. It hasn’t always been easy, but I think that’s what makes it harder to leave—getting through the growing pains of the first few seasons has bonded us. And made the last three seasons a blast! I’ve never been at a job this long, so this is new for me. I think I will miss you all and the fun we’ve had making this silly show on the #Waverider—as much as I’ll miss bringing #RayPalmer to life. Love & blessings on a great finish to the season.
The heartfelt caption confirms that Routh is exiting the show as a regular cast member. The news of Routh leaving the show broke in August and his wife Courtney Ford revealed that Routh is not leaving the show willingly and could have stayed longer if writers wanted him to. The decision to get rid of Routh has been met with much criticism from fans.
Although, his role will end on a high note with his appearance in the crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths. Also, Routh will suit up as Superman again after ten years and will share the screen with two other Men of Steel. Atom is also likely to show up, giving him a dual role in the event.
Crisis on Infinite Earths kicks off this December 8th and concludes on January 14th with the Legends of Tomorrow season 5 premiere.
Just A Rather Very Intelligent System. I am a simple person inspired by simple things; in love with the Marvel and DC Cinematic Universe. I prefer being a man of fiction over action.
