Episode 3 Recap

Team Z members played a round of rock, paper, and scissors to choose their positions in the first selection tournament. Isagi won and decided to play forward. Ego announced only ten of the 25 teams would advance to the following phase. However, the two best players from each losing steam would be chosen.

Isagi attempted to kick the ball once the game started, but Raichi grabbed it away from him. Igarashi and Kunigami quickly joined in, competing for possession of the ball. They all argued that since only the greatest players from each team would remain, they had to score the most goals to remain in the game.

Later, the members of Team X joined the struggle for the ball. Barou, a player for Team Z, gained possession of the ball and started jogging in the goal direction. Barou asserted without turning around that he would win the game alone because he didn’t care for his team.

Team Z members started to argue since they could not agree on a plan of action.

Igarashi was handed the ball as Team X got to work cooperatively. They instantly handed the ball to Barou, who passed it to someone else. That player scored another goal when Barou handed the ball to a different teammate.

Isagi now understood that Barou’s objective was the sole reason Team X could function as a team. The commanding athlete inspired his team to cooperate as a unit.

Isagi recognized that when Ego spoke of starting soccer from scratch, he meant by making a goal. They required a player who could encourage the other players by turning their zero goals into one. The trouble was that Team X got better, scoring three more goals.

Isagi handed the ball to Bachira, who then re-started the game by sprinting for the opposing team’s goal. Barou halted Isagi as he was running toward his target.

Isagi stood still, unsure of what to do. Isagi got ready to attack before stopping abruptly and handing the ball to Kunigami. Kunigami was able to score.

Isagi explained that he was not trying to pass the ball, but his body moved independently.  Barou approached Isagi and told him that he lacked talent as a striker. Team X was announced as the winner of the match.

A further defeat would result in elimination from the experiment, according to Kuon, who emphasized that they urgently needed a fresh plan. Isagi begins to share his realization during the game. Isagi was on the verge of discovering the truth, according to Ego, who appeared on their locker room screen.

The sportsmen would need to set aside all notions of roles in order to develop soccer from scratch. Ego asserts that the players should concentrate on their abilities rather than their position. Isagi shares what he discovered with his team. Barou’s goal ended up being the one that made his team cooperate.

About Blue Lock

Blue Lock is a Japanese manga series written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. It has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine since August 2018. Blue Lock won the 45th Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2021.

The story begins with Japan’s elimination from the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which prompts the Japanese Football Union to start a program scouting high school players who will begin training in preparation for the 2022 Cup.

Isagi Youichi, a forward, receives an invitation to this program soon after his team loses the chance to go to Nationals because he passed to his less-skilled teammate.

Their coach will be Ego Jinpachi, who intends to “destroy Japanese loser football” by introducing a radical new training regimen: isolate 300 young strikers in a prison-like institution called “Blue Lock”.
