Ichika describes the origins of the Yami clan, who are thought to be derived from a band of killers known as “kijin.” The Ryudo clan-ruled Goshun territory was guarded by these Yami clan forefathers, who made a name for themselves during times of conflict on several battlefields.
A five-headed dragon is said to have torn across Hino Country before being stopped by a heavenly maiden, according to a tradition told by Ichika. The dragon’s yoryoku leaked out after that, cousin the seas to turn dark and stagnant, twisting space and time and connecting it to hell.
Then, we see a flashback to Captain Yami and Ichika’s childhood and their house. He launches into a frenzy about how similar Ichika looks to her mother, who died due to giving birth. Captain Yami blocks his attempt to strike Ichika.
Captain Yami’s father praises his strength. Captain Yami tells him nobody cares before departing to take Ichika fishing. Ichika and the other members of the Yami clan watch as Captain Yami catches fish. Then Ryudo Ryuya shows in and asks to join them.
Then Ryuya joins Yami and Ichika. He starts talking about how he wants Hino Country to be a place where everyone lives and laughs together. After first making fun of him, Captain Yami appreciates what he says.
Back in the present, Ichika refers to Captain Yami as a demon god who is worse than their father and accuses him of lying. A flashback of a bloodied Ryuya is shown, with Ichika in his arms, staring in shock. The same panel also shows Captain Yami covered in blood, holding a katana while surrounded by at least a dozen dead bodies.
According to Ichika, Captain Yami allegedly killed their father and the entire clan when he was just 13 years old. Ichika chastises her brother for evacuating to the Clover Kingdom while leaving her and Ryuya behind.
Asta defends Captain Yami, insisting that it must be a mistake and that he believes in the Captain Yami he knows. Ichika calls him a fool and claims she witnessed the events firsthand.
With her Yoryoku Scroll in hand, a furious Ichika challenges Asta to demonstrate his claim by using the strength Captain Yami taught him during a training session.
