Black Adam Introduces DC Comics JSA Member Cyclone

Black Adam is now out in theaters for everybody to witness. The DCEU film introduces The Justice Society of America (JSA) -the superhero team consisting of four powerful entities.

The youngest of them is Cyclone, a 19-year-old girl who got her superpowers after an evil scientist kidnapped her and ran a nanotechnology experiment that went wrong.

The DC Comics character Maxine Funkel, a.k.a. Cyclone, was recruited in the JSA after her secret powers went viral on the internet. It later came to light that Maxine was the granddaughter of JSA legacy Member Abigail “Ma” Funkel, a.k.a. Red Tornado.

Cyclone’s comic look has been kept the same in the 2022 film, but with some minor changes. Though the iconic red hair and Wizard of Oz-inspired green costume are pretty accurate.

Quintessa Swindell, famous for her role in Trinkets and Euphoria, plays the young superheroine in Black Adam. The character’s superpowers are also same as seen in DC comics.

Cyclone can manipulate the wind and create tornadoes and hurricanes of varying pressure simply with her will enhanced by body movements.

Her ability to move as she wishes in such windy conditions provide her an advantage over her enemies, who are busy fighting the wind and dodging objects flying at them in induced hurricanes.

Besides wind manipulation, Cyclone also possesses extreme intelligence – which is why her mentor and idol Hawkman labeled her as “a tornado with a 167 IQ.

Maxine, though the youngest of the JSA, is not the least powerful of the group and brings a unique input to the JSA. We’d suggest watching the movie in theaters to understand the extent of her powers.
