With anime becoming more mainstream than ever, Netflix’s rise in Sphere of anime has been very apparent, especially when it offers dubs of many of our favorite series.

Given all that, here are the best romance anime on Netflix that you can watch dubbed.

Although High Score Girl does not offer anything extraordinary story-wise, the setting is what makes it truly engaging. This series is a love letter to the 90s video game culture, with many obscure and obvious references to many retro video games. If you are familiar with that culture, this series is surely going to give you a heavy dose of nostalgia.

Watch Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! on:

At first, this anime appears to be a light-hearted comedy but that is not the case. The slow discovery of Rikka’s condition makes for excellent drama and some raw emotion that you would not expect to feel when beginning to watch the show.

Yuuta Togashi is a former “Chunibyo”, who hopes to leave his past behind as he enters high school. This proves to be very difficult as Rikka Takanashi, his new classmate is the vessel of “Wicked eye” and a hardcore “Chunibyo” herself.

Watch BEASTARS on:

The series discovers the dynamics between herbivores and carnivores in an anthropomorphic animal world. I personally enjoy the portrayal of Legoshi’s internal conflict while discovering his feelings for Haru. Also, this is probably the only anime where the use of CG is actually good.

The story takes place in a world of anthropomorphic animals, where Legoshi, a grey wolf is a student at the Cherryton Academy high school. He is a part of the drama club, where an alpaca is murdered which causes cold conflict between herbivore and carnivore students.

One day, Legoshi meets Haru, a small rabbit who is in love with Louis, a red deer who is the front runner for the title of “Beastar”. This encounter leads him to develop complex feelings towards Haru in a world where there potential relationship is forbidden.

This is a true early 2000s classic with an exceptionally good dub. Inuyasha is an anime that can be considered truly Japanese and is probably responsible for getting many people interested in Japanese culture including me.

Watch Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day on:

This series is surely going to make you cry. Anohana is an emotionally powerful story centered around a cast of strong characters with slow development. It’s the kind of story where you feel all the emotions of the characters, in sadness and in triumph.

3. Toradora

Air Date: October 2, 2008 Status: Finished Studio: J.C.Staff No. of Seasons: 1 No. of Episodes: 24
Watch Toradora! on:

This is one of the few series where the slow build-up to the main romance is actually worth it. Although Ryuji and Taiga interact throughout the series, they do not discover the true nature of their relationship until the very end of the show. I find this especially refreshing as the discovery is especially rewarding, given the buildup throughout the run of the show.

Ryuji Takasu is a second-year high school student with an intimidating face, leading to people mistaking him as a delinquent despite his gentle nature. He is best friends with Yusaku Kitamura and Minori Kushieda, the girl he has a crush on.

One day he meets Taiga Aisaka, a girl with cute looks and a feisty personality. She reveals she has a crush on his best friend Yusaku while she is best friends with his crush Minori.

They end up making an arrangement to set each other up with their crushes, unable to realize what their alliance is actually leading to.

2. Maid-Sama

Watch Maid-Sama! on:

Maid Sama! Is probably the best rom-com anime. The series offers an excellent dynamic between its main characters along with some sweet wholesome moments. It’s hilarious overall and despite being full of cliches, I consider this a masterpiece.

Watch Your Lie in April on:

This is a heart-touching story involving an ending you do not wish for. This series is full of impressive musical performances, which are enhanced by the circumstances. Kosei’s development is easily one of the best, with Kaori acting as a catalyst.

Kosei Arima is a former childhood music prodigy who stopped playing the piano due to burnout and his mother’s death.
