Bel Air Season 2: Who will get the Founder’s awards? Is it Will?

Season 2 of Peacock’s Bel-Air is getting deeper and deeper as the weeks pass.

We see Lisa catching up with Carlton in the hallway between classes. Lisa questions whether Carlton aced their calculus test, and he confirms her suspicions. We see Carlton reaching to pull a flyer off his locker notifying students about their school’s Founders Award.

Lisa immediately encourages Carlton to go for the Founder’s Award. Still, he reminds her that it requires being nominated and winning support from students, faculty, and alums. He believes this has prevented any Black students from winning the prize in the past.

I feel Will will win the Founder’s award since he isn’t manipulated as fast as Carlton might get. Yes, Carlton did not use the coke given by Connor, but he never threw it either. Moreover, The Black Student Union nominated Will for the award. This further boosts Will’s chances of becoming the winner.

Lisa tries to convince Carlton that he could win the award and an easy pass to the Ivy League. When he asks why she doesn’t want it for herself, she reveals she’s planning to continue her family’s tradition by attending Howard University. Meanwhile, Carlton is set on the Ivy League — Princeton University.

Season 2 Episode 5 saw the nominees for the founder awards being announced. All the kids gathered around the class, awaiting to hear who would be nominated. As they go through the list, we hear Carlton’s name, which Will congratulates him for. However, moments later, they announce Will Smith’s name, which shocks both of them and the entire class.

After Will checked in on Carlton, Phil checked in with Will. The two discuss the fact that Will is a role model for Carlton. Will tells Phil that he doesn’t care about the Founders Award and will gladly take his name out of the running.

He makes sure that Phil knows that he wants the best for Carlton. Will catches up with Doc at the exhibit, and the two discuss how academics are just as important as sports. This prompts Will to inform him that he’s up for leader at school, although it’s more of his cousin’s thing.

Doc tells Will he also has leadership qualities and shouldn’t be so quick to count himself out.

Who nominates Will for the Founder’s award?

After class, Will is making light of the situation with Carlton when Ivy speaks up to tell them both that the Black Student Union nominated Will for the Founders Award. It makes Carlton mad because he thinks it’s personal, and Ivy is mad at him.

However, she explains that Will brings a perspective they haven’t seen before, and he is the perfect person for the award. She further says he should be excited that two black men are nominated.

Hilary is discussing with the crew that they need to trust her and that she can make this happen. When someone mentions Ivy, she says they don’t need her, and she needs a little time to build things up.

Next, we see Tyler talk to Will, and he lets him know that he is playing for Zenith Hype now. Finally, Phil and Geoffrey discuss the firm numbers being down 30%. Geoffrey suggests meeting with a firm they lost to get that percentage back up.

Connor approaches Carlton in the class to rub it in his face that Will will probably win the award over both of them. Then, he offers him some drugs, and Carlton refuses, but Connor leaves it on his desk and walks away. Next, we see Carlton frantically freaking out because he wants to take the drugs but knows he can’t. Wisley, Carlton decides not to take them and leaves the bathroom.

What happened back in the house?

Back at the house, Will comes to check on Carlton. He notes that he peeped Connor in his ear earlier at school. Carlton says he doesn’t want to deal with Connor and his BS.

After his conversation with Will, his mother was next. She congratulates him on the Founders Awards nomination but notes that she heard about his panic attack at the protest. Carlton convinces Vivian that everything will be fine and that they all need faith in their decision.

While Will is trying to learn more about the Founders Award, we find out that Carlton didn’t flush the coke that Conner gave him. He hides the drugs in one of his drawers.

This might be the beginning of Carlton’s downfall again. On the other hand, Will’s newfound interest in the awards makes him the one who is more likely to win the prize.
