B99 Finale Gives All The Main Characters’ Stories A Perfect End

Now that Brooklyn Nine-Nine has finally ended, there’s only one thing left to do. Re-watch it. Or better, read up all you can about it. Again and again.

B99’s eight-season run became millions of people’s comfort place. Watching Amy and Jake show off their friendship-cum-rivalry, Rosa’s remarks, Boyle’s quirkiness, and a whole lot more were (still are!) a go-to show for many.

The writers made sure the end had a classic B99 touch. And to be honest, they did such an incredible job at it that the finale didn’t feel like a finale. It had the same (well, 2x) betrayals, past character cameos, raw humor, witty humor, and even multiple pretty confusing heists.

But what makes the finale fulfilling is knowing that our much-loved characters ended up on a great note. No one’s had a bad ending because no one deserves a bad ending in B99.

  • Amy and Jake (and Mac)

Hands down one of the few couples who are #ThisIsWhatHealthyRelationshipsLookLike goals, Amy and Jake’s perfect ending is heartwarming.

The writers gave us two opposite reactions to someone pursuing their dream jobs.

After years of proving her worth, Amy finally gets appointed to Chief and becomes Holt’s second-in-command. A chunk of this decision comes from her and Holt’s police reform program.

Jake and Amy

With this incredible promotion finally her way, Jake can’t let her give this up because of motherhood. Initially scared of having a kid, Jake leaves the job and becomes a stay-at-home dad. Because he wants to be a better father to Mac than his father ever was to him. (Where are the tissues?)

  • Captain Holt

We have another lover in the house, ready to risk it all. Captain Holt and Kevin recently re-took their vows, and Holt now knows his top priorities. After his and Amy’s police reform programs were approved, Holt was given the Deputy Commissioner of Police Reform position. He wants not to let work consume too much of his life, as he thought of quitting the job before the police reform happened.

But now, he’s up to the task, with Chief Amy by his side!

  • Private Investigator Rosa

Our scary yet brilliant Detective/PI Rosa has never been the one to live how others want her to. People don’t know much about her, and we don’t either, except she knows how to take a stand. After witnessing the police brutality, she leaves the precinct and chooses to forge her own path by being a private investigator.

Her friendship with Amy bloomed in the last episode, as she shared an ‘I love you with her, giving us another #FriendshipGoals.

Rosa Diaz
  • Charles Boyle

Unlike others taking a swift turn in their lives, Boyle will stay over at the precinct and be the workhorse (or rather, the showman) of it, as he always has been.

Charles Boyle

The quirky but average guy is also currently dating Genevieve and raising their adopted son, Nikolaj, together.

  • Terry Jeffords

Boyle isn’t alone. He still has the beloved father Terry Jeffords by his side at the precinct. The Captain, who can’t imagine not being there for his twin girls, is seen years later leading another briefing before Jake, Amy, and others crash it for their Halloween Heist tradition!

Terry Jeffords
  • Hitchcock and Scully

Hitchcock did the most Hitchcock thing ever – told everyone he was in Brazil while he was, all this time, living in a van! While Scully also gets back at the precinct and is working with Hitchcock like he always does – lazily.

Even if “endings are inherently sad”, as pointed out by Jake Peralta, B99’s ending left all of us with a big beaming smile.
