The Jump Festa’23 event that took place on December 18 revealed further details about the television anime adaptation of Kentaro Yabuki‘s romantic comedy fantasy manga Ayakashi Triangle.
The anime revealed a key visual and a teaser trailer featuring new cast members. The four new additions to the cast are Haruka Tomatsu as Yayoi Toba, Hina Kino as Lucy Tsukioka, Shoya Ishige as Soga Ninokuru, and Satomi Arai as Ponosuke Ninokuru.
Previously revealed cast members include Shōya Chiba as Matsuri Kazamaki, Kana Ichinose as Suzu Kanade, and Tesshō Genda as Shirogane.
The series is set to premiere on January 9, 2023 on Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, BS11, Tokyo MX, TV Aichi, and YTV. Crunchyroll will stream the anime as it airs.
The anime is directed by Noriaki Akitaya at studio CONNECT, with the series composition by Shogo Yasukawa. The character designs are by Hideki Furukawa and Rei Ishizuka will serve as the music composer.
Yabuki first launched the manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in June 2020. Shueisha will publish the manga’s 12th compiled book volume on January 4. Viz Media and Shueisha are both publishing manga in English.
The plot of the manga, as described by Seven Seas, is:
“Teenager Kazamaki Matsuri has long been part of an elite force of ninja exorcists, tasked with fighting malicious ayakashi spirits who threaten Japan–especially those after his childhood friend, the spirit medium Kanade Suzu.
As he fiercely protects her, and his relationship with her blooms from friendship into something more, a powerful cat ayakashi vows to get between the lovebirds: by casting a forbidden spell that turns Matsuri into a woman!
With no apparent way to undo the spell, Matsuri must continue battling ayakashi–and go back to school–in this new feminine body until he can find a way to turn back.”
About Ayakashi Triangle
Ayakashi Triangle is a manga series by Kentaro Yabuki which was first published in June 2020. Both Viz Media and Shueisha publish the manga digitally in English.
The story focuses on Kazamaki Matsuri, a teen ninja exorcist who fights ayakashi. When his childhood best friend, Suzu, is in danger of being devoured by a spirit, he stands as a barrier and gets cursed.
Due to the curse, his body transforms into that of the girl. Now, Matsuri has to get accustomed to his new body while trying to protect Suzu and undo the curse.
