A seemingly ordinary cat proves to be a much higher power in episode 1 of Ayakashi Triangle titled “Matsuri, Suzu, and Ayakashi.”

As an unsuspecting Suzu plays around with a cat, ayakashi, promising to take it somewhere safe, Matsuri discovers the true power of the so-called Shirogane and speeds to save his childhood friend’s life.

Their battle is one to be witnessed as both sides use the full potential of their abilities; however, it ends in an unexpected turn in both the tide of battle and gender.

Episode 2 Speculation

Now that Matsuri has been turned into a girl, Suzu will need to start helping him out with this new switch in life; from the opening, it can be implied that this change is not very temporary. How anyone else that Matsuri knows will react to the change cannot be expected to be normal.

Meanwhile, Shirogane moves around in cat form, plotting his next plan to regain his powers and eventually eat Suzu, which is an unlikely possibility, narratively speaking.

Recap of Episode 1

The episode begins with Suzu buying some crepes from the store she’s a regular at, being tempted by some new unique crepes. An Ayakashi spots her from afar, and an exorcist ninja watches it even further.

She chomps down on her snack as an ayakashi in the form of a cat decides to make its move but is quickly intercepted by Matsuri, a ninja from the Kazamaki clan. The ayakashi boasts its name, Shirogane, as they fight each other.

Suzu immediately comes and helps the cat, takes its side of the argument, and leaves Matsuri in the mist. Matsuri pretends to use a substitution jutsu and swap for a log, but it is a humorous bluff.

Suzu cycles away with the cat as she remembers her past experiences talking to all the friendly ayakashi and being the weird one, according to everyone else except Matsuri. Meanwhile, a massive battle breaks out as Matsuri weaves in and out of a dangerous ayakashi’s attacks.

The spider Ayakashi is swiftly exorcised using Matsuri’s unique ninja technique, Scattering Whirlwind Bloom, leaving nothing but dust in the wind. Suzu reaches a shrine and continues to talk fondly about Matsuri.

Matsuri talks to his grandpa about his daily experiences and mentions Shirogane, which completely scares the grandpa. The king of ayakashi is now in cat form and being given belly rubs by Suzu.

It reveals its proper form as it transforms into a colossal monster the size of a building. Matsuri speeds through trees as fast as he can to rescue Suzu, knowing she is an Ayakashi medium which is why she keeps attracting them.

He makes it right on time as they exchange blows with inhumane speeds and precision; Suzu falls for him even further as he stands in front of her with all his might and protects her; this enrages Shirogane even further.

He fights using the scroll his grandpa gave him, containing 30 years of knowledge and power, to seal whoever it is used on. Shirogane uses a gender change jutsu on Matsuri, converting her to a girl to prevent them from getting handsy.

Ayakashi Triangle is a manga series by Kentaro Yabuki which was first published in June 2020. Both Viz Media and Shueisha publish the manga digitally in English.

The story focuses on Kazamaki Matsuri, a teen ninja exorcist who fights ayakashi. When his childhood best friend, Suzu, is in danger of being devoured by a spirit, he stands as a barrier and gets cursed.

Due to the curse, his body transforms into that of the girl. Now, Matsuri has to get accustomed to his new body while trying to protect Suzu and undo the curse.
