Avatar: The Way of Water is still going strong in theaters worldwide, and the film is still pulling in the big bucks! Director James Cameron already sealed his place as the only director to have three titles in the box office’s all-time top ten, but he’s outdone himself too.
Cameron’s Avatar 2 just dethroned his 1997 romance film Titanic and took the third spot at the international box office. While Titanic retained its position in the top 3 since its premiere over 25 years ago, Avatar: The Way of Water just sank the film to number 4 on the top ten list.
Now, in case you have missed the keywords so far, let us elaborate. The film has now earned over $1.538 billion internationally, beating Titanic’s $1.535 billion earnings, but it still needs to take over Titanic’s spot in the worldwide top ten.
Currently, Titanic still holds the third spot in the worldwide list with $2.194 billion, and the last count dictates Avatar 2 stands at $2.174 billion. But we estimate the 2022 film will overtake Titanic in a week or less!
But for all its earnings, Avatar 2 is unlikely to rise any further up the ladder, and its predecessor and Avengers: Endgame will retain their spots at number one and two on the top ten.
Avatar ($2.923 billion) and Avengers: Endgame ($2.799 billion) are further off, and Avatar: The Way of Water will need to earn another billion to overtake the two films and take the title of the highest-grossing movie of all time.
But the film has still broken quite a few records, and thanks to its huge success, the promised sequels will take off in 2024 and 2026 without any hitches.

Avatar: The Way of Water is an upcoming American epic science fiction film directed by James Cameron and produced by 20th Century Studios. It is the second film in Cameron’s Avatar franchise, following Avatar (2009).
Cameron produces with Jon Landau. However, they are forced to leave their home and explore the different regions of Pandora when an old threat returns to finish what they started. Jake has never faced a bigger challenge.
