Apple TV’s Sugar Episode 6 Ending Explained

Private investigator John Sugar stumbled across some horrible family secrets while searching for Olivia Siegel, the missing granddaughter of celebrated Hollywood producer, Jonathan Siegel.

Though the creators call it genre bending, the latest twist in episode six of Sugar, a crime thriller series in progress on AppleTV+ is quite unexpected.

1. What happens at the end of episode 6?

After a violent confrontation with highly unpleasant human trafficker Stallings (Eric Lange), Sugar goes to his friend Melanie (Amy Ryan) for help. He then gets patched up by his colleague Henry (Jason Butler Harner), and after waking goes to confront Ruby about tipping Stallings off.

2. What Happens to David Siegel?

At the conclusion of Episode 5 of “Sugar,” David Siegel faced immense pressure after news of his extortion against women surfaced in tabloids. The man attempted suicide by shooting himself with a concealed gun from his bathroom, prompting his frantic parents to rush him to the hospital.

His survival seemed unlikely, as David had potentially shot himself in the mouth or face. However, Episode 6 begins with a surprising revelation from the doctor: David had indeed survived the suicide attempt, though in critical condition. While the emergency surgery physically saved David, the positive news quickly faded.

Although the emergency surgery had been able to save David physically, his brain had been permanently damaged by the bullet wound, meaning that he would not be able to speak, move, or even think ever again. Thus, he would only remain alive in a vegetative state, and so the doctor immediately suggests that David be let go and his organs be donated to help a better cause.

3. Does John Sugar get attacked?

John Sugar gets stabbed in the stomach while fighting Stallings. He calls Melanie (Amy Ryan) for help. Despite bleeding heavily, he doesn’t appear to be in pain.

As they reach home, John asks Melanie to call his doctor, Henry (Jason Butler Harner). Henry sends Melanie away to give John some privacy. He then takes out a pouch containing a strange liquid, which he gives John to help him feel better.

4. Who helped Stallings?

Ruby confesses that she has been helping Stallings in Episode 6.

John found Ruby’s (Kirby) call on Stallings’ phone and chose to talk to her when he felt better. At first, Ruby did not answer his questions but later she did.

Ruby told John that she did help Stallings, but she did not think he would attack John. She said the leaders at their spy group do not want John to find Olivia, and she is just following their orders. Ruby told John to stop looking for the case.

5. Is John Sugar an Alien?

John returns after his conversation with Ruby and steals an injection and some liquid from her place. As soon as he returns, he immediately goes into the bathroom and closes the door.

He injects himself on his neck with something and undergoes a startling transformation, turning completely blue to resemble an alien or an extraterrestrial creature. The episode concludes with this stunning revelation.

Throughout the episodes, there have been hints suggesting that John is not from Earth and has gained much of his knowledge about the world from movies.

He has also mentioned having a secret, but given his history of hallucinations in previous episodes, it’s unclear whether his transformation into what appears to be an extraterrestrial being is real or just another hallucination.
