If you’re like me, you’ve been hooked on Hijack, the new Apple TV+ miniseries starring Idris Elba as Sam Nelson, a business negotiator in the middle of a plane hijacking.
The show, created by George Kay and Jim Field Smith, is a tense thriller that unfolds in real-time over seven hours, as Sam tries to broker a peaceful end to the crisis while authorities on the ground scramble for answers.
The first two episodes, which premiered on June 28, 2023, set the stakes and introduce us to the main characters on and off the plane.
The show also gives us clues about the hijackers’ motives and demands, which seem to be related to a mysterious cargo that Sam’s company is transporting from Dubai to London.

Here are some of our predictions and expectations for the next installment of this gripping miniseries:
We will learn more about Sam’s backstory and why he is such a skilled negotiator. We already know that Sam has a tumultuous past with a messed-up family and a daughter who won’t talk to him.
But what else is he hiding? And how will his issues affect his ability to handle the hijacking?
We will also see more tension and conflict between the hijackers, who might have different agendas and personalities. Stuart seems to be the group’s leader but is also unstable and violent.
Rashida (Fatima Adoum) is a devout Muslim who believes they are doing God’s will. Yussuf (Nasser Memarzia) is an experienced pilot who is flying the plane, and Nasir (Nebras Jamali) is a young hacker who is in charge of communications.
How will they deal with the pressure and the challenges they face? The hijackers’ multi-faceted personalities are worth exploring in the next episodes. How will they coordinate in such a tense situation? I see a potential mutiny in the group developing very soon!
Meanwhile, some hostages seem skilled enough to outsmart the hijackers in the future.
There’s an undercover agent (Arthur) and a teenage tech prodigy (Jaden) in the crowd. They will surely give those nefarious hijackers a tough time in the future.
Or are they also a part of the master plan?
Elsewhere, things have been Topsy-Turvey in the ground too. DI Farrell has to deal with political interference and media scrutiny, while Alice has to coordinate with Sam and trust his instincts.
They can’t count out the possibility of another complication like a rogue sniper, a mole in their team, or a possible bomb on board. Things look really bleak.

In the second episode of Hijack, we see how Sam Nelson tries to outsmart the hijackers who have taken over the flight from Dubai to London.
Sam pretends to be on their side but secretly communicates with the Captain and the British air traffic control to alert them of the danger. He also plants doubt in the mind of Stuart, the hijackers’ leader, about the pilot’s loyalty and motives.
Meanwhile, in London, Daniel, Sam’s ex-wife’s partner and a detective inspector teams up with Zahra, a counter-terrorism expert, to investigate the possible hijacking.
They are met with resistance and denial from the authorities, who claim it was a false alarm. In Dubai, Abdullah, an air traffic controller who first noticed the anomaly, digs deeper into the security footage and finds a suspicious clue.
The episode also shows us the tension and fear among the passengers and crew members, who are threatened and beaten by the hijackers for showing any sign of resistance.
Some of them try to fight back but only make things worse. Others try to cope with the situation by praying, crying, or bonding with each other. The episode ends with a shocking twist that reveals the true identity and motive of one of the hijackers.
