AMD’s Zen 4 and RDNA 3 are Right on Schedule for a 2022 Launch

AMD had plans to launch the Zen 4 processors and RDNA 3 GPUs in 2022 and thankfully, those plans seem to be right on track. So, it seems even the recent chip shortages that have affected the globe have not affected the red team roadmap.

In March, we got to look at some of the Zen 4 server specs, and saying we were highly impressed would be an understatement. But we were still in the dark about the Ryzen 6000.

Since then, we have received rumor after rumor, teasing us with specs we know will give both NVIDIA and Intel a run for their money.

The potential for Zen 4 chips to come integrated with RDNA 2 GPUs has also appeared.

This would also explain the projected power consumption numbers floating around (up to 170W) and position AMD as a contender against Intel for office-based machines that don’t require a power-hungry GPU.

Some reports have suggested that Raphael will support DDR5 memory exclusively. But given that Intel’s Alder Lake CPUs will support both DDR4 and DDR5 for pricing reasons, we think the exclusivity to DDR5 may not be accurate. Instead, it would just serve to limit AMD’s potential consumer base.

Other rumors coming from well-known leakers on Twitter have placed Raphael’s core count at 16, which suggests Zen 3’s current eight-core chiplet pair design will be hanging around for another generation.

Having supposedly scrapped its Warhol Zen 3+ refresh, we could see some 3D V-cache Zen 3 chips coming as early as this year with an incredible 15% performance improvement in games.

No matter what happens, the rumors and leaks have gotten our attention and interest for the next round of AMD CPUs. RDNA 3 is also another reason for this excitement.

The possibility of having 15,360 cores for Navi 31 SKUs is pretty fantastic as it’s triple of what is currently on the Radeon RX 6900 XT.

While things are still a little up in the air, given all the information we have so far, it’s easy to see AMD having everything ready for an Autumn 2022 launch.
