With a worldwide gross of $1.148 billion, it is the highest-grossing movie of the DCEU, one of the highest-grossing films of 2018, and the 24th highest-grossing movie of all time, making the movie a commercial success. The movie is set to have a sequel, releasing in 2023.

Amber’s role in the first Aquaman movie was that of Mera, and she also featured in the Justice League as well as Zack Snyder’s version of it.

Despite a viral report making rounds, Heard has not been cut from Aquaman 2, according to Amber Heard’s spokesperson.

Heard’s star power has been tarnished in recent months due to a defamation trial that caught the public’s attention for the Washington Post column which implied her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, has been physically abusive to her.

Heard was ordered to pay $10 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages for damaging Depp’s reputation and career after losing the trial.

At the trial, Heard was once again called into question as to what will happen with DC as Mera. Her return as Mera was initially not wanted by Warner Bros. however, Jason Momoa and James Wan persisted and she stayed on board.

Nevertheless, speculation has raised questions about Mera’s DCEU future ever since Heard disclosed she was unsure if her reduced role would be included in the final film and the court sided with Johnny Depp.

Heard’s spokesperson, however, debunked the claims of her departure from the DCEU movie as a result of the infamous trial. The representative issued a statement to TMZ clarifying Amber’s situation, saying “The rumor mill continues as it has from day one — inaccurate, insensitive and slightly insane.”

Amber Heard is planning to appeal the results of the defamation trial, stating the online narrative certainly influenced the outcome. She brought up the unfair social media treatment she received in her first public interview after the trial. Here’s what the actress had to say:

“Even somebody who is sure I’m deserving of all this hate and vitriol, even if you think that I’m lying, you still couldn’t look me in the eye and tell me that you think on social media there’s been a fair representation[…]you cannot tell me that you think that this has been fair.”

However, all is not yet in the clear with rumors, as there are varying reports regarding her screentime in the upcoming movie.

In a recent Comic Book News report, Warner Bros. held a test screening for Aquaman 2, in which Amber Heard was given double the screentime instead of it being reduced as per previous reports.

While Amber’s public image stays murky post-trial, WB appears to be testing waters with the test screening. Whether or not Amber’s role has been reduced will only be known once the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is released in theaters on March 17, 2023.
