Seven Seas Reveals Amazon has Stopped Buying its Books in Europe

Seven Seas Entertainment was established in 2004 with the aim of producing original English-language manga. Over time, the company also started licensing manga and light novels from Japan, making it the one-stop shop for all international weebs.

The company started gaining the upper hand and became a big name in the global manga community, attracting the attention of companies like Amazon.

Before we knew it, Amazon had started selling titles from Seven Seas on its website, making it even more accessible to the global audience. However, it looks like this partnership is now heading toward its end.

Seven Seas Entertainment tweeted that Amazon in Europe has stopped purchasing their books and titles due to an environmental decision.

The manga publisher has also stated that it’s not just them but other companies in the region who have been through the same with Amazon. Seven Seas has informed us that their distributor is looking for solutions and that people should look for another retailer for the time being.

An environmental decision might refer to the decrease in paper use, leading to Amazon ending its partnership with publishing companies. It has only happened in Europe till now but may start applying to other countries and regions too.

Seven Seas had recently licensed some great titles like Cat on the Hero’s Lap, Soara and the House of Monsters, and more of this kind. The company acquired the manga for its English release, and fans were thrilled to receive some exciting stories.

In addition, Seven Seas announced in November 2020 that it had made a sales and distribution agreement with Penguin Random House Publisher Services. Due to this, PRHPS began distributing the entire frontlist and backlist across all sales channels worldwide for Seven Seas in July 2021.

I hope Seven Seas figures out a way to reach its audience again and with a reliable distributor this time.

Till then, the global manga readers might need to find a new retailer or wait until Seven Seas gives us an update.
