Valve Says a Technical Issue Is Blocking Some Games on Steam Deck 

Whether you like it or not, there’s no denying that Valve’s powerful gaming handheld, the Steam Deck, will go down in history for all the right reasons.  

Owing to the device’s flexibility, unbelievable features, and infinite customization options, the waves that Steam Deck has created in the gadget community are there for everyone to see. 

Moreover, the constant improvement that the Deck receives in the form of increased battery life or new features further proves how hard the devs have been working to ensure users get a polished experience. 

However, this week, many enthusiasts expressed concerns regarding issues that prevented some games from being installed on the device. On April 28, a tweet made many believe that Valve finally came across a stumbling block by exhibiting an image where JRPG Demon Gaze Extra was “configured to block” the Steam Deck. 

Quick to notice, Valve entered the picture and clarified that it was a mistake on its part and assured users that this isn’t something that developers have done deliberately. 

In an email to PC Gamer, Valve said 

Before the Deck launch, we added a feature to allow developers to tag certain content/depots as being relevant only for Deck customers. This would allow developers to automatically deliver a different default graphics config on Deck, for example. There was a technical issue with the way this feature was shipped, and so, unfortunately, some content was incorrectly tagged as the reverse.

The company went on to say that this problematic feature was updated after it came to their knowledge so that the devs can no longer tag games incorrectly. Now coming to games that are still “uninstallable”, Valve assured that it’s “working with partners to fix the issue.” 

This problem could have been pretty detrimental to the reputation that Valve has built for itself if it affected a large number of the 2000+ verified games that are playable on the Deck.  

The fact that only a handful of titles had to suffer meant that the users’ concerns weren’t widespread and could be dealt with quickly, much to Valve’s delight.
