In this ride, you’ll have a high school rom-com mixed with some trouble due to the girl’s yakuza background. Oh, and did I tell you that Keiya, her bodyguard is almost 30?

A 15-second teaser shows a few shots from the manga panels. The classic ‘saving the girl from falling down’ scene in the video basically screams rom-com.

All Isaku ever wanted was an average high school life away from her yakuza family. Is she going to get it, though? Of course not. On top of dealing with a new school with unknown classmates, she will also have to deal with Keiya, who is adamant about always staying with her.

There will be multiple situations where Keiya will have the chance to protect Isaku to prove just how necessary his presence is. Gradually, Isaku will develop stronger feelings for him, as is typical of a girl who has never known another male her entire life.

All in all, ‘A Girl & Her Guard Dog’ walks a dangerous border between supporting a pedophile and encouraging hormonal decisions. Let’s see how the upcoming anime adaptation elevates it to a whole new level of cringy adoration.

About A Girl and Her Guard Dog

A Girl and Her Guard Dog is a manga series by Hatsuhara that was launched in December 2018. It is released in the Bessatsu magazine and is currently ongoing. An anime adaptation by project No.9 is set to premiere on 29 September,2023.

The series focuses on Isaku, a girl whose parents died when she was five, causing her to get adopted by her yakuza grandfather. The old man hired Keiya to look after her at all times.

Isaku grows up under his supervision and now longs for an average highschool life. Determined to save her from any danger that occurs, Keiya bribes his way into school as her classmate.
