Nine Major Reveals in The Wheel of Time S2 Trailer

The Wheel of Time season 2 trailer is finally out, and it is filled with subtle reveals that are challenging the fans to try to predict the upcoming plot!

We already know that it will be the adaptation of the next two books of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series, and the trailer also suggests that The Great Hunt and The Dragon Reborn will indeed be the blueprints for the story.

However, as with season one, season 2 will digress from the canon in many areas and add a different flavor to the mix.

In this article, we bring you nine major reveals that we managed to extract from the trailer and what they mean for Moraine and the company moving forward.

Before we dissect further, watch the trailer below:

1. Rand Meets Lanfear

In the trailer, a mystery woman can be seen hugging Rand.

A quick Google search will tell you that the ‘mystery woman’ is Natasha O’Keeffe, who has been cast as Lanfear in season 2. So, who is Lanfear?

In the books, Lanfear is portrayed as a member of the Forsaken and also a previous lover of Lews Therin Telamon, aka, the original Dragon.

She tags along with Rand in The Great Hunt, secretly aware that Rand is the reincarnation of the person she truly loves.

2. The Seanchan Possess The Horn of Valerie

The horn of Valerie is one of the most powerful artifacts in the world and the main motive behind The Great Hunt.

The trailer shows Seanchan proclaiming that “the whole world will be ours” after opening a mysterious box that seems to contain the horn of Valerie.

This is a massive spoiler as it reveals where the horn finally ends up after Padan Fain leaves Fal Dara with it. However, this is a known fact to those who have read the books.

In the novel, the protagonists chased Padan Fain to Falme, where they had to acquire it from one of the Seanchen leaders, High Lord Turak.

3. Elayne Joins Egwene & Nynaeve At The White Tower

Egwene and Nynaeve will not only stick together in The Wheel of Time, but also welcome a new friend in Elayne Trakand. We, as fans, have been eagerly waiting for Elayne as she will complete one of the show’s most powerful trio of women who can channel the One Power.

She will learn alongside Egwene and Nynaeve at the White Tower, and it will be cool to see their chemistry. Elayne is the princess of Andor and one of the three women who will capture Rand’s heart.

4. Wheel Of Time’s Characters Will Meet The Aiel Early

The Wheel of Time’s deserted wastelands is home to the Aiel, a war-mongering race that will play a vital role in the entire saga.

However, they don’t really show up until book four, The Shadow Rising. Season 2’s trailer almost confirms the introduction of the Aiel sooner than the readers expected. The fighters with masks and spears look just like the Aiel warriors from the books.

The question remains whether they will fit into the story this early. The writers may have thought of an alternate storyline for the race, and that’s something we are looking forward to.

5. Rand Wants Logain To Teach Him Channeling

One of the most surprising scenes in the trailer is when Rand speaks with Logain and asks to be trained. This is a massive change from the books, where Logain and Rand have a very different relationship.

In the canon, Asmodean is the one who trains Rand, and Logain doesn’t meet him until much later, in book eight, A Crown of Swords.

Even then, they don’t share a teacher-and-student bond but are allies at the Black Tower. The Wheel of Time is giving Logain a new role in the show. How will he fit into the storyline? Will the longtime readers be able to accept the change?

6. Rand Travels To Cairhein

We know that Rand will travel across many kingdoms in season 2. He meets the Aes Sedai leader Siuan Sanche in the trailer, but not in a place where you might expect.

The trailer shows them facing off in a room, and the picture of the Sun can be spotted in the windows. We immediately realize that it is the city of Cairhein, outside the White Tower.

In the book, they talk in Fal Dara, but since Rand has already left that place, the makers possibly changed the location of the encounter.

7. The Forsaken Are Unleashed

A woman covered in blood catches the eye of many in the trailer of The Wheel of Time. Her face is not shown, but we think that she is Lanfear. Could she have set the Forsaken free?

As we learned in season 1, the Dragon locked up the Forsaken long ago. However, after Rand and Ishamael’s clash in the season 1 finale, it seems another Forsaken has escaped.

8. The Main Characters Have Split Up

The trailer shows the beginning of the Great Hunt, and our heroes have split up. Some of them – Moiraine, Lan, Egwene, and Nynaeve – head to Tar Valon, while the others – Rand, Mat, Perrin, and Loial – join the hunt for Padan Fain.

Moiraine comments, “Together we face the impossible, now, in our separate corners of the world,” suggesting that the show will follow the exact plot as the books.

Although we don’t know how the characters will team up, Nynaeve and Egwene will surely share the same story arc.

9. Ishamael Teams Up With The Seanchan

The trailer also reveals a surprising twist about Fares Fares’ character, as he joins forces with the Seanchan. He claims to be the Dark One, but book fans know he’s really Ishamael, one of the Forsaken and Rand’s arch-nemesis.

He follows Rand throughout The Great Hunt and confronts him in an epic battle at Falme.
