Will Santos Escobar Turn Heel After Betraying Rey Mysterio in Crown Jewel?

It seems like Santos Escobar is turning into a heel very soon, especially after the way he sabotaged Rey Mysterio in the United States Championship at Crown Jewel.

Logan Paul defeated Rey Mysterio to win the US Championship, but Paul got unexpected help from an unlikely ally. During the match, Logan Paul tried to cheat by using brass knuckles, which were handed to him by an associate. But Rey knocked it off his hands.

The associate tried to hand the knuckles to Paul once again but was stopped by Escobar. However, different camera angles reveal that it was Santos who kept the knuckles in the right place for Logan to pick up.

As per Escobar, though he tried to help Rey, he apparently handed the brass knuckles to Paul “by mistake”. He claimed he did not know how the knuckles got there. Escobar’s apparent ‘mistake’ makes us wonder if he is finally turning into heel by turning against Rey Mysterio.

Santos Escobar is turning heel in WWE. He secretly went against his own faction member, Rey Mysterio and is expected to soon turn against him as a full-fledged heel.

Maybe they could have a mentor vs. mentee match between Rey and Escobar in the upcoming Survivor Series to intensify the conflict.

Why Did Santos Escobar Turn Against Mysterio?

Santos Escobar turned against Mysterio as their styles never matched in the first place. He has shown jealousy towards Mysterio ever since he revived the LWO in 2023. Mysterio also overshadowed Escobar to become the leader of the faction and took away his opportunities.

There have always been some hostile feelings between Mysterio and Escobar, which began after Escobar was injured by Austin Theory who was supposed to challenge him for the US Championship title.

Rey Mysterio ended up replacing Escobar in the US Championship title match and defeated Theory to win it. Although he did it on Escobar’s request, it seems like the latter could not digest how Mysterio took his place.

Ever since, there has been “healthy competition” between the two. Escobar challenged Mysterio to win the US Championship title, and Mysterio happily agreed to let him have a shot.

While Mysterio has always been friendly and amicable towards Escobar, the latter seem to hold feelings of jealousy for Escobar, especially after he took over the LWO as leader.

After what happened at Crown Jewel, it seems like Escobar will finally turn against Rey Mysterio before the Survivor Series or during the event. Mysterio and Escobar could face each other in the event.

How Escobar’s Heel Turn Could Affect The LWO

Now that Escobar has shown clear heel tendencies at Crown Jewel, there’s a chance that Carlito could return and join the LWO once again. The LWO might have been conspiring against Rey for a long time to bring back Carlito and turn a full-fledged heel faction.

There has been speculation that the Latino World Order will turn heel since the resignation of Carlito in 2021. Carlito has not appeared in any WWE events since his surprise appearance in Royal Rumble and RAW, so his status with the company is not clear.

Meanwhile, Mysterio revived the LWO in 2023, of which Carlito was a part.

Carlito would always be welcome in the LWO, as the original LWO faction was founded by his late cousin, Eddie Guerrero. The LWO might kick Rey Mysterio out, bring back Carlito as leader, and turn heel.

He could have a personal vendetta against Rey as well since he replaced Carlito in the US Championship match at Fastlane 2023. In other words, Escobar’s actions are a part of a larger game plan.

Although this has not been confirmed yet, it seems like it especially after Escobar’s deeds at Crown Jewel. This can be an interesting storyline for the faction and a good way to spice things up, as the LWO has been quite stagnant since its revival.
