The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3: Renewal Status, Release Date, and More

The first half of The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 ended with a suspenseful twist for Mickey Haller, the charismatic defense lawyer in Los Angeles. As the second half of the season premieres, fans are eager to know if The Lincoln Lawyer will return for another season. 

As of now, The Lincoln Lawyer has not been renewed for season 3. However, due to the ongoing strikes, it is difficult to say when season 3 will be in production. Netflix has not given any statements in this regard. 

1. Will The Lincoln Lawyer be renewed for season 3?

There is a high chance of The Lincoln Lawyer being renewed for season 3. The series is a big success for Netflix and has been one of the popular series on the platform.

The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 achieved a global ranking of second among all Netflix TV series, according to the streaming platform’s data. In its first week, the new season appeared on the top 10 list in 80 countries, secured the third position in the U.S., and accumulated 7.4 million views and 31.4 million viewing hours.

It also stayed on Netflix’s global and U.S. top 10 lists for the entire month of July, reaching the top spot on both lists in the second week. Moreover, season 1 also experienced a July increase in viewership, separately making it to Netflix’s global top 10 list for three weeks and to the U.S. top 10 list for two.

With such impressive results, The Lincoln Lawyer appears to have a strong chance for a season 3 renewal. Last year, after the comparable success of season 1, Netflix renewed the show one month after its premiere (it is worth noting that the first season was released in one batch, not in two parts).

Moreover, season 2 ended with a shocking revelation of the murder of an important character. Unless there is an internal issue, it is expected that season 3 will address the murder and reveal the identity of the killer.

So, either way, a renewal of The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 is on the cards.

2. The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 Release Date

The current strikes by actors and writers have disrupted the production and filming of scripted TV shows and movies. Even if Netflix decides to renew The Lincoln Lawyer for season 3 soon, it is uncertain when the writing and production process would start. All we can do now is wait patiently.

Therefore, it is impossible to predict a potential release date for The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 as of writing this piece. 

3. The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 Plot

Netflix’s Lincoln Lawyer series is inspired by the popular novels by Michael Connelly. The first season followed the plot of the second book in the Lincoln Lawyer book series, The Brass Verdict, while the second season skipped to the fourth book, The Fifth Witness. In addition, elements from the first book, which shares the name of the TV and book series, were incorporated into the first two seasons.

Therefore, the four books in the Mickey Haller series are available for adaptation for season 3 scripts. They are The Reversal (book 3), The Gods of Guilt (book 5), The Law of Innocence (book 6), and the forthcoming Resurrection Walk (book 7, expected to be released in November 2023).

Considering the ending of the season 2 finale, season 3 will follow the fifth book in the series, The Gods of Guilt. However, it may also include certain elements from the other remaining books. But the events of The Gods of Guilt will make up most of the plot of season 3 for sure.

The Lincoln Lawyer is an American legal drama television series created for television by David E. Kelley and developed by Ted Humphrey, based on the books of Michael Connelly.

It stars Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Mickey Haller, a defense attorney in Los Angeles who works out of a chauffeur-driven Lincoln Navigator rather than an office. Neve Campbell, Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole, Angus Sampson, and Christopher Gorham also star.

The first season is based on Connelly’s 2008 novel The Brass Verdict, a sequel to his novel The Lincoln Lawyer. It premiered on Netflix on May 13, 2022.
