Episode 3 of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier teased a surprising character at the end. Titled “Power Broker”, the episode also sees the proper return of Baron Zemo, who joins hands with Barnes and Wilson to help stop the Flag-Smashers.
However, the arrival of Dora Milaje Ayo, played by Florence Kasumba, has got fans intrigued. Upon Barnes confronting her, Ayo reveals that she is looking for Zemo. As Zemo was the cause behind their previous King’s death, the Wakandans have perhaps dispatched Ayo to ensure he is brought to justice again.
Ayo has previously made appearances in Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther, and Avengers: Infinity War. She escorted T’Challa to the Sokovia Accords establishment in Civil War and later ran into Black Widow to prevent her from speaking with T’Challa.
In Black Panther, she continued to be one of the Dora Milaje bodyguards to the newly crowned T’Challa, and only serving briefly under Erik Killmonger before turning against him. Her last appearance was in Infinity War, where she fights in the Battle of Wakanda.
Even though Ayo hasn’t been given the same importance as the Dora Milaje commander Okoye, her return to the franchise has solidified the significance of her role in the ongoing series. As Sam timely reminds Bucky, before Ayo arrives, of Zemo’s past crimes, especially killing T’Chaka, it shouldn’t come as a surprise then if the Wakandans mean to capture him once and for all.
News of Zemo’s escape must’ve reached them, and given their advanced technology, it is possible they were able to track him down to Latvia. Either way, it remains to be seen whether Ayo will succeed in capturing Zemo or not.
But given Zemo’s track record, Bucky and Sam’s alliance with the notorious criminal has raised speculation, as well. Irrespective of his extensive knowledge of HYDRA, it doesn’t take away from the fact that he remains a powerful foe who could bring harm to the duo anytime.
