The ‘Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire’ trailer has been like a breath of fresh air for those desperately waiting for kaiju action after the 2021 film Godzilla vs. Kong. The trailer reveals a plethora of exciting stuff about the upcoming film and features both our heroes and the nefarious Skar King!

But something peculiar caught everyone’s eye. We see a strange gauntlet in Kong’s right arm, almost resembling Thanos’s famous infinity gauntlet from the MCU. What is it? And what does it do?

If you are also wondering how Kong suddenly became Kong Thanos, you aren’t alone. MonsterVerse geeks have been racking their brains to come up with theories and explanations for this mysterious piece of armor adorning Kong’s right arm.

So let’s dive into the good part and explore all the possible explanations behind Kong’s mysterious gauntlet.

1. What is the Gauntlet in Kong’s Arm in the Trailer?

Speculations suggest Kong’s gauntlet is made by Dr. Ilene Andrews to protect the Titan’s arm after he gets critically injured while fighting the Skar King. It could also be a symbol of his royal lineage as an Alpha-Titan.

We know that Kong has a tender bond with young Jia and can communicate with her using sign language. Many kaiju-nerds think that Jia and her adoptive mother, Dr. Ilene Andrews, fashion an armor for Kong after he gets grievously injured in the upcoming film.

Maybe the gauntlet/armor is a prototype of a new technology that the humans have developed using some kind of Titan DNA. We will definitely have more clarity when more content from the New Empire comes out.

We are still not sure about the powers of Kong’s gauntlet or if it can produce something like Godzilla’s atomic breath. It could either be a sort of protection band or something to enhance Kong’s powers.

2. Kong May Have Found the Gauntlet Inside Hollow Earth

Another theory suggests that Kong finds the gauntlet inside the Hollow Earth. This supports the idea that Kong is the rightful owner of the place. The gauntlet could signify his supremacy.

Kong’s parents were killed by the horrible Skullcrawlers. However, Godzilla vs. Kong hinted at Kong being the rightful ruler of the Hollow Earth.

He even discovers the iconic axe made out of Gojira spikes in the Hollow Earth. Therefore, MonsterVerse fans believe that Kong will find that gauntlet in that exact location inside the Hollow Earth.

I believe that the gauntlet will have the power to emit frequencies that can control other Titans, much like Godzilla’s roar or the ORCA device from Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

3. About Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is an upcoming American monster film directed by Adam Wingard. A sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), it will be the fifth film in Legendary Pictures’ MonsterVerse, the 38th film in the Godzilla franchise, the 13th film in the King Kong franchise, and the fifth Godzilla film to be completely produced by an American film studio.

Due to the box office and streaming success of Godzilla vs. Kong during the COVID-19 pandemic, Legendary announced a sequel in March 2022 and that filming would commence later in the year.

In May 2022, it was announced that Wingard would return to direct and Dan Stevens cast as the lead. Filming began in July 2022 in Gold Coast, Queensland, and finished in November 2022. The film is scheduled to be released on March 15, 2024.
