There’s confusion once again about the release date for Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Let’s get it straight: The sequel will be released on October 15 this year.
Vulture alluded to the possibility of the movie suffering another delay which would land it a spot in 2022. A day later, while talking about Spider-Man: No Way Home’s record-breaking trailer, Variety came in with a clarification from a studio insider who said the news is not true. We will be subjected to Carnage come October, whether we like it or not. (But we all know we will!)
The pandemic has pushback the movie’s release date several times, including a three-week delay from its 2021’s September 17 premier. Box office numbers cannot be highly trusted and movies are all over the spectrum — the likes of The Suicide Squad on the lower end, while Free Guy seems to be making a fair share of returns.
While Marvel is being calculative about their own releases (one of which is evaluating The Eternals’ release based on Shang-Chi’s outcome), Sony may not benefit from another delay, no matter what the results are. This is keeping in mind that Venom 2 is currently a theatre-exclusive. Fans may not be very forgiving if another postponement is announced.
Still, there are quite a few weeks left before its premiere, and as unpredictable as the box office and the pandemic can be, our fingers are crossed that everything goes smoothly. The first film despite lacking critical acclaim was a massive box office success at 856 million USD.
This surely shows that fans cannot get enough of the alien symbiote who loves to eat everyone’s heads off. Add Carnage to that mix and you’ve got yourself a feast! The trailer has already teased an epic showdown between Venom and Carnage, also featuring Woody Harrelson, the enemy symbiote’s primary host and resident villain.
Not to forget, the movie will also set up foundation for the upcoming Morbius and Kraven the Hunter. There’s a lot riding on this release!
About Venom: Let There Be Carnage
Venom: Let There Be Carnage is an upcoming American superhero film directed by Andy Serkis. A sequel to 2018’s Venom, it is based on the Marvel Character of the same name. Tom Hardy will be reprising his role as journalist Eddie Brock/ Venom and newcomer Woody Harrelson will play psychotic serial killer Cletus Kasady/ Carnage, in the second installment. Further cast includes Michelle Williams, Reid Scott, and Naomie Harris.
Venom ended with the symbiote destroying Carlton Drake, the symbiote Riot, and the Life Foundation’s spaceship. Thus the world was saved. In a mid-credits scene, Brock was invited to interview incarcerated serial killer Cletus Kasady, who promised “carnage” when he escaped. This was Woody Harrelson’s Carnage reference.
Now, the trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage teased the appearance of another symbiote Toxin through his host, Patrick Mulligan.
