Transformers: Rise of the Beasts marks the first film in the franchise in over half a decade, and it is already bringing in good news for the film series. After Bumblebee (2018) rebooted the Transformers franchise, Rise of the Beasts introduced new villains and allies for the Autobots and premiered globally this Friday.
According to Deadline, the film’s opening weekend at the box office has earned it a whopping $60 million, edging it over Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, bringing in a close $55.8 million this week. Sunday’s collections are yet to be added, but Transformers 7 is leading the race for now, and only time will tell if Miles Morales’ Spider-Man can beat that.
The 2023 sequel’s box office opening also spells great news for the franchise – it comes second behind 2014’s Age of Extinction ($100 million), going well over 2017’s The Last Knight ($44.6 million) and 2018’s Bumblebee ($21.6 million).
In comparison to the old fame, yes, the latest addition of the film series cannot compare. However, its box office earnings compared to the most recent Transformers project seems promising for the franchise’s future.
The critics have also commended the movie with the positive reviews. Paramount is already betting on the success of the return of the Transformers franchise by announcing Rise of the Beasts as the beginning of a trilogy and confirming that two new sequels are in the works.
Apart from the two upcoming sequels, Hasboro’s works will be continued in an origins story in 2024’s Transformers One and a season 2 for Transformers: EarthSpark. Even if Spider-Verse does beat Rise of the Beasts at the box office, its guaranteed success gives us hope for the franchise’s renewal.
