Responding to a poll that suggests almost half of Americans would be keen to see Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson launch a presidential bid, the actor described the results of the survey as “humbling”.
The film star and former wrestler posted an article on Instagram on Saturday, featuring the quote,
“At least 46 percent of Americans would support a presidential run from Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson”.
“Humbling,. I don’t think our Founding Fathers EVER envisioned a six-four, bald, tattooed, half-Black, half-Samoan, tequila drinking, pick up truck driving, fanny pack wearing guy joining their club – but if it ever happens it’d be my honor to serve you, the people.”
Dwayne Johnson
According to reports, the poll, from Piplsay, inquired 30,138 people about their opinion on which celebrities they would like to see as president.
Talking to USA Today, the star confirmed that he would be keen to go into politics if that is what the public wanted.
“I would consider a presidential run in the future if that’s what the people wanted. Truly, I mean that, and I’m not flippant in any way with my answer. That would be up to the people … So I would wait, and I would listen. I would have my finger on the pulse, my ear to the ground.”
Dwayne Johnson
With a chiseled body, endless charm and, at one time, even a mean catchword, Johnson is an extremely marketable guy. The last 15 years have seen him appear in several big-budget films, most notably as a part of the Fast & Furious franchise.
Fast & Furious Present: Hobbs & Shaw (The Fast & Furious spinoff), a movie in which he co-starred with Jason Statham, made $760 million at the box office when it was released in 2019.
However, Johnson’s celebrity reputation on its own doesn’t equip him to become president. But this poll makes it evident enough that his legacy as an entertainer has made a lot of people ready to support his possible run for president.
Although Biden has a few more years in office, based on this poll, it seems like Americans might be eager to see more celebrities in the run for the 2024 election.
