Even before the eventful season 1 finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the series was renewed for a second season. With a five-season plan already in sight, the prequel’s crew must feel slightly less pressure in dealing with production blocks. Or so you would think!
The season 2 filming in the UK has hit a filming complication, and it’s not the first either. In early April, a small fire deterred the next season’s ongoing production, and now filming has hit another snag! According to a report by Mirror, Berkshire locals are complaining that building a castle in the middle of the King Charles’ Forest is damaging to the environment.

Well, the forest protection society doesn’t have it wrong! The season 2 production planning report already acknowledges lasting impacts on the surrounding area, including destructive damage to bee and ant habitats. But the Crown Estate is not moving to bar production in the Swinley first and urges that no such damning environmental impacts will be allowed.
Apart from the April fire and the forest society complaints in May, PETA also had an axe to grind with the crew of The Rings of Power. In late March, a horse mysteriously died on set without any pre-existing injuries or illnesses, leading the NGO to negotiate with the producers to forego using real horses and lean on CGI.
While these protests are fighting for a good cause, production for the Lord of the Rings spinoff will not come to a stop. But they can be more aware of their surroundings and ensure the least amount of damage in their wake.
Amazon Studios has not announced an official release date for season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, but it is expected to hit Prime Video in the second half of 2024. Stay tuned to Cine Dope for the latest news on your favorite shows and movies!
