The Mandalorian is set to return with season 3, reuniting Din Djarin and Grogu, on March 1, 2023. And even before the new season’s premiere, showrunner Jon Favreau has delighted the Mando’s fans with an exciting new update for season 4!
In an interview with BFMTV Inside, the filmmaker explained how the writing process has gotten more complicated since other shows sharing the time period are also in development. He confirmed he wrote the script for season 4 during season 3’s post-production to ensure the show feels “like a continuation and one full story.”
You can read his full quote below and also view the interview from the Twitter account @lenicolasbehar:
Season 4? Yeah, I’ve written it already. We have to know where we are going to tell a fully formed story. So, we had mapped it out, Dave [Filoni] and I. And then slowly, you just write each episode. So I was writing it during post-production because all of it has to feel like a continuation and one full story.
The Mandalorian was the first live-action spinoff in the original Star Wars saga, and thus seeing it branch out to fill other stories while continuing with Din and Grogu’s story will be pretty exciting. But Lucasfilm needs to be more careful when weaving these shows so closely as not to disrupt the canon and avoid plot holes.
But, of course, building one universe across multiple projects is demanding and requires much determination and hard work. The Book of Boba Fett couldn’t hack it, but with Favreau and Filoni’s genius banded together, we can rest easy knowing that the upcoming season of The Mandalorian and other shows sharing the same era will be worth it.
With the confirmed news of completion of season 4’s script, the Star Wars fandom can expect a much closer release date for the next season after the season 3 premiere. Who knows? Season 4 might arrive on Disney+ later in 2023 or early 2024!
But even after the script, the cast and crew will still be left with shooting, post-production, and more, so it’ll still be a while till we see season 4 on the streaming platform. So, let’s not get too hasty and enjoy the new season 3, which will premiere on March 1, 2023.
