2. The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Premiere Recap

The episode opens as we see Mickey’s newfound fame as a lawyer following his victory in Trevor Elliott’s case in the last season. He is featured in various media outlets, with photos, interviews, and magazines, and enjoys the attention and recognition he receives. He visits his next client, Russell Lawson, who has been charged with burglary.

Meanwhile, Detective Griggs confronts Mickey about his role in Jesus’s release, which embarrasses the department and the DA’s office. He informs him that the case is officially reopened, requires a new perspective, and assigns him to lead the investigation. He requests Mickey to arrange a meeting with Jesus.

Griggs interrogates Jesus and shows him a knife similar to the murder weapon. He asks Jesus if he ever possessed such a knife, and he denies it. Griggs reveals that he interviewed his former roommate, Luis Casillo, who claimed that Jesus had a knife like that and disposed of it in the L.A. River after the crime.

Moreover, Mickey and his ex-wife, Maggie, have dinner and talk about their personal and professional issues. Maggie expresses her frustration over how the Jesus Menendez case ruined her career. She worries that the case’s reopening might make her efforts futile.

Maggie storms out of the dinner when the chef sends them a complimentary meal for being the “world famous” Mickey Haller. Lisa, the chef, approaches Mickey, and they sleep together.

The next day, Lisa visits him and asks for his help with a legal matter. She tells him about a local developer, Mitchell Bondurant, who is building everywhere and issued a restraining order against her for protesting against his projects on the news. Mickey agrees to take her case.

Later, Mickey examines the photos of Russell’s house and the house he supposedly burglarized and notices they are identical. He decides to negotiate a plea deal with the prosecutor before the trial. He presents the photos and suggests that he could argue that Russell was drugged at the bar that night. She accepts the deal of time served and restitution to the widow.

As Mickey drives home, Izzy tells him that Russell has paid five thousand for any future legal services. Mickey finds Russell waiting for him on the patio.

He explains why he is there and how as his lawyer, everything he says is confidential. He removes his jacket, revealing a tattoo on his arm, and confesses to Mickey that he killed Martha Renteria and demands that Mickey keeps his secret.
