Earlier in the episode, Alice gave a muffler to Duke that she knitted for him. The next day after the snowfall, the love birds enjoyed the snowfall outside the mansion.
Later that night, Duke met Cuff while trying to find Alice’s lost earring outside that belonged to her mother.
While mending Cuff’s robe, Alice realized that the lady she met at the town festival was also a witch. Cuff flew off in the sky after having dinner with them.

Episode 5 Preview & Speculation
So it’s confirmed that the old woman Alice met at the town festival was a witch. Furthermore, the lady called her mother’s name, which indicates that she is somehow related to Alice’s mother.
This further indicates that Alice’s mother has something to do with Duke’s curse.
Moreover, the earrings were suspicious, too, because Alice was unfortunate, and she seems to have a complicated relationship with her mother at the same time.
Cuff is a victim of the Witch Hunts and was shunned throughout her life for being a half-witch. Her only friend is this childhood friend she got separated from, which raises his curiosity about who this friend might be.
Hopefully, we will get an answer soon. In the next episode, titled ‘The Duke, a Crow, and Ice Skating,’ a crow will appear around the mansion.
Since now we know that witches can transform into any life form, it seems like the crow might be the witch who cursed Duke.

Episode 4 Recap
On noticing Alice not teasing him like she usually does, Duke worries about what he did wrong. But he is relieved to discover that the reason behind her unusual behavior is just a cold that she caught last night.
Later that night, Alice asks Duke to enjoy the snow together when it falls. Although Duke hesitates at first, he agrees when Alice gives him a scarf she knitted for him. The following day, the duo enjoy the snowfall outside the mansion.
After getting inside, Alice realizes that she dropped an earring while playing outside. It was precious for her as it belonged to her mother.
Duke takes the responsibility of searching for it and starts digging the snow outside with a shovel.
After a while, Duke passes out in the cold weather outside. At the same time, a bat in the sky transforms into a girl and lands in front of Duke. She wakes him up and asks him what he was doing. On learning about his kindness, she finds Alice’s earring with her magic.
The girl introduces herself as Cuff and reveals that she is a witch. While taking her inside the mansion, Duke asks her if she can break his curse.
To his disappointment, Cuff replies that she doesn’t possess enough power yet to break such a powerful curse.
After having her stomach full of delicious food, Cuff asks Duke if he wants to know something about witches. So Duke asks her about the witch who cursed him, but Cuff doesn’t know anything about her.
Meanwhile, Alice fixes her robe and realizes that the lady she met at the town festival the other day might also be a witch since she was wearing the same robe and mask as Cuff.
After Duke comments that she must have a crush on her friend, Cuff flies back into the sky.
The next day, while taking a look at the snowman they built the previous day, Alice recalls how Duke used to cheer her up every time his friends teased her in childhood. Later, Alice and Duke talk while looking outside from the window.

The Duke of Death and His Maid is a 2017 supernatural manga by Koharu Inoue. The manga was serialized on Shogakukan’s Sunday Webry website and finished its run in May 2022.
The story revolves around a young duke named Bocchan who was cursed by a witch in his childhood. His curse can kill anything he touches, making him completely isolated from his loved ones to save their lives. He lives in a mansion on his own but is accompanied by his maid and butler.
He has quite the relationship with his maid Alice and the two grow closer throughout the story.
