Episode 2 of The Demon Girl Next Door 2, titled “Urban Exploration! The Troubled Mikan and the Excited Demon,” is the latest installment of the anime.
The mystery behind Shamiko’s dad being sealed in a box takes one step further to get solved. After Mikan moves in next to Shamiko’s apartment, she notices that her dad has been locked in a box with her family’s business logo.
When Shamiko asks if they could visit Mikan’s family warehouse, it is revealed that the establishment had been destroyed because her father summoned a powerful demon to gain more wealth.
It turned out that the demon had other plans, and hence, he had to be taken down by Sakura, Momo’s magical sister.

Episode 3 Speculation
In the next episode, Shamiko’s magic powers will receive a boost after she discovers her dad’s shape-shifting weapon. Since she lacks knowledge on how to enhance her powers, Momo will help her set up an account online and teach her how to use the internet.
This information overload might be daunting for Shamiko, but I think she’ll change her usual bubbly aura to a dark one. How exactly will Momo and Mikan react to this drastic change? We’ll find out in the next episode.

Episode 2 Recap
Summer vacation has just begun, and Shamiko is surprised to discover that both Momo and Mikan have moved into the same building as hers. Momo even brought some high-quality meat as a present for Shamiko and her family.
The three girls, along with Shamiko’s mother and sister, had a great feast as they celebrated the two girls moving next door.
The following day, Mikan realizes that Shamiko’s dad has been sealed in one of her family’s business’ boxes. She explains how her family suffered a massive loss after her father attempted to make a deal with a demon.
His plan backfired, and the demon entered Mikan’s heart which caused everyone around her harm.
The business was destroyed, her family was shattered, and Mikan could do nothing but distance herself. To remove the curse and defeat the demon, Sakura, Momo’s sister, who was also a magical girl, was called. She pulled out the curse from inside her heart and sealed the demon away.
After hearing this story, Shamiko gets excited, believing that the old warehouse of Mikan’s family might hold answers to her father’s freedom. The three girls visit the old run-down warehouse and start looking for clues.
Shamiko finds a strange wand and rushes to show her finding to her two friends. When she reaches the two, the wand turns into a fork, making Mikan and Momo believe that Shamiko is suffering from a heat stroke.
After they return home, Shamiko tells her mom about the strange incident and shows her the fork. Her mom instantly recognizes the fork as a magical heirloom and tells Shamiko that it was her father’s weapon. She then asks her to concentrate and make the fork transform into a weapon.
Shamiko does what she’s told, and to everyone’s surprise, the fork indeed turns into a large weapon. As the episode ends, Shamiko remembers how Mikan told her that Momo used to smile a lot as a kid.
In an attempt to see her smile, the demon girl makes a fool of herself and pledges to defeat her magical counterpart one day.

The Demon Girl Next Door is a four-panel manga by Izumi Ito. It started serialization in 2014 and has inspired an anime adaptation in 2019 by J.C. Staff.
Yuuko Yoshida is a 15-year-old girl who awakens one morning with demonic power and is tasked with defeating a local magical girl. She has horns and a tail, but truthfully less power than an ordinary girl. She struggles to lift the ‘curse of a 40,000 yen per month living.’
