Episode 7 of the Case Study of Vanitas, part 2, titled “Snow Flower,” is the latest installment of the anime.
This episode marked the end of the Beast of Gevaudan arc. Chloe and Jean-Jacques are no longer curse bearers, and Chloe was even able to reconcile with Jeanne.
We also got a little more insight into Vanitas’ past where we saw that he was probably raised by a lady named Luna.
Astolfo’s bloody rage also ended when he physically depleted his energy, and his traumatic past resurfaced. Roland cared deeply about the boy and was the one to slay the vampire who killed his family.
Now that the Beast of Gevaudan is gone, what challenges will Vanitas and Noe face next? Keep watching to find out.
Episode 8 Speculation
With the Beast of Gevaudan being eradicated, it’s time for Vanitas, Jeanne, and Noe to address the consequences of their actions. Vanitas and Noe have been brutally injured after their fights against Chloe and Astolfo.
It seems like Astolfo hasn’t recovered from his past trauma, but hopefully, Roland will help him throughout his journey.
On the other hand, Jeanne could be punished since she didn’t kill Chloe. We don’t know why Lord Ruthven turned against her, but he specifically sent Jeanne to murder Chloe under the guise of slaying the Beast.
Jeanne could argue that the Beast no longer existed, but it’s hard to predict what her punishment could be.

Episode 7 Recap
Vanitas performs his curse-lifting ritual, and his consciousness shifts into another dimension for a second. A lady in white talks about the Malnomen who inflicted the curse on Chloe, Millie, theatre of ice and snow.
Those who are affected by this malady are trapped in a closed world, a frozen prison of their own memories. They endlessly repeat a performance that plays out and slowly destroys their soul.
This malnomen is so intractable because it can’t be treated by performing an inverse operation. Unless the curse-bearer themselves rejects this frozen world, they will remain bound fast there until it they’re erased from existence.
He’s then back in the real work and tells Chloe that she can either vanish along with the world she created or continue to live a dismal life. No matter what, the church will never admit the truth about the past and will keep framing her as the Beast.
Chloe then becomes trapped in a black cage where two shadows hold her captive. Jeanne looks at Chloe, regretting her past mistakes. She wishes to go back in time and save her earlier, so this could have been avoided.
Outside the castle, Noe is still fighting against Astolfo. The young Chasseur’s body is taking a toll on him, but he pushes on.
Noe almost backs down, feeling as if Astolfo’s rage is justified but is reminded of when Vanitas told him to prioritize his sense of justice. A blast escapes from Astolfo’s weapon, which cuts off Noe’s hand, but the vampire still makes it out alive and punches his opponent fiercely.
We cut back to Chloe in the dark cage, where she reveals that she always wanted to be accepted by her father. Vanitas calls out to her, but she doesn’t seem to notice. Finally, Jean-Jacques and Jeanne pull her out of the cage, setting her free.
Vanitas recites Chloe’s real name, “she who makes music with snowflakes.” The castle is transported back into reality, and all the dark beings vanish into thin air. They’re surrounded by blue flowers as its petals slowly rain down upon them.
Roland stops Astolfo’s blind rage, and Jean-Jacques reunites with Chloe. Jeanne rushes to Vanitas and thanks him for everything. She’s aware of the consequences of her actions but is happy nevertheless.
A desire takes over her, and she starts drinking Vanitas’ blood. After finishing, she pecks him on the cheek, and Vanitas realizes that he’s falling for her.
After the casualties are taken care of, Vanitas frees Jean-Jacques of his curse, hence putting an end to the Beast of Gevaudan.
