In this article, we’ll recap what happened in the season 2 finale of The Apothecary Diaries. We’ll also cover everything you need to know about the release of the next season. We urge you to watch the latest episode, as it is vital to keep up with the plot.
1. Release Date of Episode 25 of The Apothecary Diaries Season 2
Apothecary Diaries season 2 has come to an end. TOHO Animation has confirmed that the anime will return with a third season, but the release date has not been announced yet. Considering that the anime has now caught up with the manga, we can assume that the third season will not be back for a while.
I. Is The Apothecary Diaries on Break This Week?
The Apothecary Diaries is not on break. Season 2 of the anime ended on July 4th, 2025.
2. Recap of Episode 24 of The Apothecary Diaries Season 2
The latest episode of the Apothecary Diaries season 2 started with Maomao and Jinshi in the caravan, where they talked a bit about many things, including Shisui, which was when Maomao realized that Shisui had been shot to death. One thing led to another, and Maomao found herself in a very spicy situation with Jinshi. When they were about to kiss, they heard shuffling from behind them, where the children’s corpses lay.
This was when Maomao realized that the children weren’t poisoned, but the medicine of resurrection was used on them. Jinshi, too, was amazed at how cunning Loulan is when he thought back on how Loulan previously said, “So you would spare those who have already died once.”. Jinshi told Maomao that they would continue what they were doing at another time, but Maomao was too absorbed in trying to bring the children back to life.
The next scene was back at Maomao’s home in the pleasure district. A lot had happened in a short time span. Gyokuyou gave birth to a baby boy, so Jinshi wasn’t the crown prince anymore. There were a lot of celebrations as the crown prince was going to be revealed to the public. The children who woke up after the effects of the resurrection medicine, along with Suirei, were taken in by Ah Dou. Considering how Suirei had the late emperor’s blood, she was not punished.
Only Kyou-u woke up a lot later, and it turned out that he had the worst aftereffects of the medicine. He woke up with memory loss and half paralysis. The paralysis went away shortly, but his memory still wasn’t back, which was good in its own way, as he could start life anew as Chou-u at the pleasure district. Jinshi was now swarmed with all the paperwork related to the Shi clan (most of them were executed at this point), so Maomao didn’t have to work at the rear palace anymore.
After a while, Jinshi came to visit Maomao, and the old granny shut him in with Maomao (exactly what he wanted). The wound Shisui gave him had gotten a lot better, and he was now taking a break from his responsibilities at the rear palace. They had a short conversation, after which Jinshi said he wanted to get back to what they were doing in the caravan. Let’s just say Jinshi had almost just as much of a bittersweet moment here as we, the viewers, had watching Maomao and Jinshi.
3. What To Expect In Apothecary Diaries Season 3?
The season 2 finale of The Apothecary Diaries has revealed that Shisui has survived and has changed her appearance and name. Just like she had previously said, she sold Maomao’s hairpin, but that doesn’t matter anymore, as all Maomao ever wanted was for Shisui to somehow survive. Regardless, Shisui will likely not have a role anymore in the story.
The preview for season 3 released by TOHO Animation did not reveal much. Still, we now know that there is another crisis that is approaching the kingdom, and this is related to the paper that Loulan handed Jinshi during the war. Just as usual, Maomao and Jinshi will get involved with every case related to the Royal Palace.
