‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ to be Disney’s Biggest Movie in 2024

Summary

  • Disney has secured exclusive streaming rights to Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.
  • The online version will be available from March 15 and will feature exclusive extra scenes and five never-before-seen tracks.

A new cut of ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ will be available to stream on Disney. Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour ended up being one of last year’s biggest films.

After the frenzy of fans scrambling for tickets to the Eras Tour, Taylor Swift revealed that her record-breaking concert would hit the big screen for a short four-week stint. The Eras Tour movie inspired hordes of Swifties to flock to cinemas across the globe, just like the live shows did. Eventually, the movie became available to rent in digital platforms.

Despite the massive box-office collection, ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ didn’t stop amassing revenue from the for-rent version. Not only was the three-hour film a novelty watch, but the rental version included songs not available in the theatrical cut.

Moreover, Disney+’s version of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will feature never-before-seen extras, Taylor’s performance of Cardigan, and four more tracks.

‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ celebrates the so-called eras of the titular singing sensation’s musical career, where her first 10 studio albums get a moment in the spotlight.

So far, the film has amassed upwards of $261.6 million worldwide. The film’s popularity lies in the fact that it broke AMC Theaters’ pre-sale record by collecting $26 million even before the film’s release.

Disney is about to make history with ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,’ and the sudden spike in figures might be the push the platform needs after a rough 2023.

Fans were willing to dish out $20 for a 48-hour rental because of the addition of a few exclusive songs, so we can imagine the numbers increasing exponentially because a Disney+ subscription costs just $7.99 per month (including ads).

Disney+ has housed other Taylor Swift creatives in the past, like ‘folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions’. However, on March 15, the relationship will reach new heights when the platform starts hosting The Eras Tour, supposedly Disney+’s most prominent inclusion for 2024.

Since this streaming version promises to have five exclusive songs, it is sure to attract both new and repeat viewers.

About Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is an American concert film documenting the Eras Tour, a 2023–2024 concert tour by singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. Directed by Sam Wrench, produced by Swift, and distributed by AMC Theatres and Cinemark Theatres, it is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States, Canada, and Mexico on October 13, 2023.

After negotiations with the major film studios fell through, Swift struck an unprecedented distribution agreement with AMC and Cinemark. Filming occurred in August 2023 at three shows at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, and SAG-AFTRA permitted production to proceed amidst its 2023 strike. Swift announced The Eras Tour later that month, catching studios and exhibitors off guard and causing several films that had been set for release on or near October 13 to move their release dates.

The unconventional release strategy was met with a critical discourse, with journalists and industry observers praising Swift’s move to bypass the major film studios to directly partner with theaters. The film was met with significant ticket demand, amassing a record $37 million in its first day of pre-sales in the U.S.
