Spy x Family Chapter 63: Release Date, Discussions, and Read Online

In chapter 62.3 of Spy x Family, we go over the final chapter of Loid’s past.

We witness how war takes a man and wrings him dry of all his blood, sweat, and tears. When nothing is left, even the tiniest amount of hope he dares hold to is ripped away until all that is left is a mere husk of something that used to be human.

It goes over the past of an unlikely friendship, a tiny sliver of hope, and a deal with the devil to set things right.

1. Chapter 63 Discussion

The last chapter with any direct effect on the story, chapter 61 ended with Loid fainting from the shock of Anya getting yet another Tonitrous Bolt, and the next chapter takes us to his memories.

Chapter 62.3 ended with Loid finally coming back to his senses with a confirmation that the upcoming chapter will be of the present, one that doesn’t really look really good.

The silver lining to the bolt was the fact that now Damian owes Anya one solid favor. Knowing the nature of the manga, this favor might not get called upon till much later but it does add an interesting dynamic to their relationship.

The upcoming chapter might take us for another joyride with Anya at her school or we could also follow Loid or Yor over for their missions as they too are back in action.

4. Recap of Chapter 62.3

The latest chapter begins with a much younger Loid finding Franky in the forest. Him being an Ostanin deserter, he immediately points a gun at him but ends up sharing cigarettes with him due to his odd charm.

Franky talks about human nature and the frailty of human opinion. He is well aware of how war propaganda works and tries to talk to Loid about it but that conversation digs up some memories he’d rather forget.

As a reflex, he snaps and points his gun at him, and shoots. His bullet misses but it does alert the Ostanian squad that had been chasing the deserter.

A stray bullet hits Loid on his helmet but he keeps his composure, successfully escaping as does Franky.

Loid gets rescued and is sent back to the base where he wonders about his role in the war. His thoughts are interrupted as he meets the same friends whose deaths he had been blaming himself for.

The reunion is cut short when they are called to the front lines where they are unable to keep their promises of making it back safely. All that is left of his friends are their dog tags.

It is then that Loid realized the destructive nature of war, the sheer madness that it can inflict upon entire nations because somebody in a high chair decided that they don’t want to play nice.

His thoughts are interrupted yet again, this time, by a member of the Military Intelligence who had come to recruit him.

The man has two choices for him, either leave whatever he had there and come with him to the Intelligence or get court marshaled for entering the military under a fake alias.

Choosing the prior, Loid comes over to him as a man with no ties left to cut, later becoming a legend among shadows, Twilight.

Loid’s nightmare ends as he wakes up abruptly and realizes where he is. The chapter ends on a very warm note as the family shares a meal together once again.

Spy × Family is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuya Endo in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump.

The story follows a spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realizing that the girl he adopts as a daughter and the woman he agrees to be in a fake marriage with are a mind reader and an assassin respectively.

Season 2 and a theatrical film are releasing in 2023.
