Sony is ending Twitter integration on PS4 and PS5 from Nov 13th

Twitter was one of the three social media platforms along with YouTube and Facebook which were connected to PS4 back in 2013 when Sony first launched its new sharing feature. After a long and successful decade-long run, Sony’s PlayStation will be finally cutting off ties with Twitter.

From November 13th, Sony will be ending support for X, formerly known as Twitter, on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Players can no longer post content directly from their consoles, access pre-existing clips, screenshots, and trophy notifications.

Sony has updated its PlayStation FAQ page with alternative ways to share content. PS5 users can utilize the PS app to upload and share content. Similarly, those who own a PS4 can do the same using the SHAREfactory app. You can also upload data onto a USB drive and transfer it to PCs. Of course, it is not as convenient as having direct access to Twitter but whatever works!

Keep in mind that data is only stored in the PS cloud for a maximum of 14 days. Once you have uploaded clips and photos onto the PS app, you can easily download it from your smartphone. Also, you do not need a PlayStation Plus subscription to use it.

Although Sony did not provide a viable explanation for this sudden change. It could be because of Twitter’s updated API changes. Earlier this year, Microsoft disabled console screenshot sharing on Xbox, forcing users to opt for the official Xbox app instead.

Twitter or ‘X’ has undergone massive changes under the ownership of Elon Musk who purchased the company back in 2022. Most of these changes were not well received in the video game industry.

On the other hand, everyone is gearing up for the upcoming Black Friday sale. According to rumors, Sony will introduce the PS5 (non-slim) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III bundle in Europe for €499. The revised price is 20% cheaper than the standard price of the bundle. Hopefully, these rumors turn out to be true because it sure is a steal deal!
