The Revengers begin to question The Chapel’s motives in episode 8 of Revengers, titled “Two of a Trade Never Agree “. As Raizo starts gaining more popularity as an artist, Usui gives him a cottage to work at. Raizo goes to a pub for dinner and meets a mysterious priest there. The striking difference in their ideologies regarding killing makes Raizo leaves the place in anger.
The Chapel summons Usui to order their group to kill Liu. However, there is no bitten gold this time. This leads to the revengers deciding to send Nio to gauge the situation in Chinatown. The priest, who turns out to be a revenger, too, is hired by Shishido to kill Liu. Raizo and Liu face off once again.

1. Episode 9 Speculation:
Episode 9 is titled “Mutual Understanding”. As Usui’s team could tell from the official document, Liu is not after the opium to spread it but seems to be a secret agent sent by the Chinese government to monitor and solve the problem. Although, Liu couldn’t tell anything to Raizo before he was seemingly shot, there is a possibility that Liu foresaw this situation and is not actually dead.
If Liu turns out to be alive, the two groups will be able to come to a mutual understanding to go against Shishido. The Chapel also seems to be involved with Shishido, and Usui’s group will have to go against some very powerful enemies. The nun might have some hidden agenda from how she is being constantly shown.

3. Recap of Episode 8:
Usui sets out with Raizo as he goes to sell his paintings. He asks Raizo about his artist name, Taishin, and learns that Raizo took one of his characters to make it. As they walk deeper into the forest, a small cottage comes into view, which Usui reveals he is giving to Raizo to work in peacefully. Usui suggests Raizo work without his past’s burdens in the cottage.
Usui asks Raizo what he wants to do after he is settled with his revenge, but he is unable to give him an answer.
That night, Raizo visits a pub, pondering over Usui’s words and meets a strange priest there. He gets into a debate with him about the nature of killing, and when the priest describes killing as trivial, Raizo marches out the pub, paying for both of their dinners.
Usui is summoned by The Chapel and is told to kill Liu. However, he is puzzled when they give him a non-bitten gold coin. Usui questions it but is shut down by the father of the church, who firmly orders him to complete the mission.
Usui tells the rest of the group about the mission but is unwilling to carry it out without the necessary grudge. Since they need to know the chapel’s real intentions, Souji suggests Nio go into Chinatown in disguise again and see if they can find anyone to bite the coin, which will tell them if Liu really deserves to die. Everyone agrees to the plan.
Shishido is seen meeting the weird priest, who turns out to be part of another group of revengers. Shishido gives him a bunch of coins without properly biting them to carry out his grudges. The Chapel nun is seen with them as well.
Nio heads into Chinatown but is captured by Liu. Raizo confront Liu again. Liu calls him a fool, and Raizo says he would rather be a fool if their wisdom entails letting innocent people fall victim to opium. Liu gets visibly surprised by his words which stops Raizo too.
Meanwhile, Usui and the rest of the group comes across an official document addressed to the Qing commissioner, which indicates that Liu is with the Chinese government.
Before Liu can tell anything to Raizo, the other group of Revengers take a shot at him. Bloof splatters, and Raizo rushes towards Liu as he falls.
4. About Revenger
Revenger is a new original anime by Nitroplus and Shochiku. It is about a swordsman who is out to fight the cruel people out there.
Not much about the plot and other details have been revealed yet. The hero’s tagline is “I cut down people in order to fight against a cruel fate.”
