Red Dead Redemption 2’s Next-gen Port Might Never Come into Being

As enthusiasts were just recovering from the blows Rockstar landed by winding down its support for Red Dead Online, another speculation by an industry insider has broken the hearts of millions of fans.

As per Rockstar reporter Tez2, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S ports of Red Dead Redemption 2 might not see the light of the day anytime soon. He claims that the next-gen upgrades were in development but have now been canceled or delayed due to unspecified reasons.

It’s likely that the studio’s attention turned to the development of the next entry in the GTA franchise in lieu of RDR2, much to the dismay of the fans of the remarkable Wild West.

While Red Dead Redemption 2 might not be as big as the GTA games, it is still a sought-after title that fans could die for. The game teems with such sceneries that make you stop after every five minutes to soak in its mesmerizing beauty. The protagonist, Arthur Morgan, is someone, I and the entire fandom, would go on a war for.

It makes total sense for this open-world RPG to get a proper next-gen upgrade that enhances it by utilizing the capabilities of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Even though the game is available on the said consoles through backward compatibility, some games deserve to see the developers going out of the way, and RDR2 is that game.

With many enthusiasts feeling Red Dead Online feels “abandoned,” this is the least Rockstar could do to send a message that they love all their projects equally.

But at the same time, since Rockstar never really confirmed that it was working on a next-gen port of RDR 2, it’d feel slightly off to blame fingers at the company.

Given that Tez2 is not the most reliable leaker, take whatever he has to say on the matter with a pinch of salt, and wait for a more credible source to shed some light on the issue.

As for what we think, it’d be not very intelligent of Rockstar not to capitalize on the love of fans for the game. Therefore, a next-gen port might actually come into being, but only after GTA 6 has been shipped.
