Battlefield 2042 Tech Test on PS5 Called Off Due to “Critical Issue”

Last week, Battlefield 2042 kicked off its first beta test program. The beta first dropped for PC, and a PS5 port was supposed to launch this week. But unfortunately, it looks like players on PS5 will have to wait a little longer to test the game.

Attributing the cancellation of the PS5 beta to a “critical issue,” DICE Community Manager Adam Freeman broke the news on Twitter shortly before the test was supposed to hit the console.

In the thread, Freeman outlined:

“We’ve been testing our builds in the background on console ahead of the Crossplay testing this weekend. We’ve already identified a Critical issue with our submitted build on PlayStation 5 and have notified folks that we will not be testing on PlayStation 5 this weekend.”

Those who were to receive the beta on PS5 also received the following e-mail announcing the cancellation.

Like Freeman’s thread above, the mail requested PS5 players to keep an eye on EA’s Community Playtesting hub for announcements on further playtests.

Freeman or any other communication from Battlefield devs did not reveal the precise nature of the critical issue. However, Freeman assured that any problems found in tech tests would be fixed before the open beta drops in September.

Things were fine on the Xbox front as players on Microsoft’s consoles joined PC gamers to test Battlefield 2042’s crossplay capabilities.

So far, they have proven to be more trustworthy than some PC players who leaked Battlefield 2042 gameplay last week.

This is a move that leakers might regret as EA might ban them not just from beta’s and tests but from the full game altogether.

Battlefield drops on October 22 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The game will not have a story-driven campaign, but devs recently unveiled a short film titled Exodus that does a great job setting the game’s stakes.

About Battlefield 2042

Battlefield 2042 is the seventeenth installment in the Battlefield series developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts. The game is a first-person online multiplayer shooting title. This installment of Battlefield will not feature a single-player campaign mode.

The year is 2042 and the world is in ruins. Natural disasters run rampant, ocean levels have risen, the world economy has collapsed, and the US and Russia are at war. You step into the shoes of a non-patriated soldier – a soldier without a side. The games’ story will be revealed through episodic additions, allowing players to create a future for themselves and other non-pats in a world on the brink of destruction.
