One of Comedy Central’s funniest sitcoms, Workaholics, ran on the TV channel for seven years. Later, in 2020, Paramount+ even signed on for a film, but production was delayed after COVID-19 outbreak. But now, just as production was about to begin in five weeks, Paramount+ canceled the film abruptly.
Adam Devine, one of the film’s co-creators and lead actors, took to Instagram to share the devastating news. The Pitch Perfect actor put a humorous spin on the disappointing news, but even the hilarious “butt hurt” comments couldn’t overshadow the grave situation. You can read his full announcement in the caption of his Instagram post below:
According to the actor’s post, the reason Paramount+ cancelled the film was the fact that the content of the project did not fit with their “global strategy.” The actor didn’t shy away from underlining another problem with this sudden cancelation – most of the crew will now be scrambling to put together other jobs after losing on this one.
Though the actor’s post ended on a hopeful note, where he promised to look for a new streaming platform to connect with so that they can pick up where they left off, fans can’t hide their disappointment.
Devine also mentioned that all three creators would be getting together on their podcast. This is Important for detailing the process and explanation behind the abrupt cancelation. We’ll hopefully get some much-needed insight on whether the project will see the light of the day or not.
Paramount+ has neither dropped a comment on Devine’s post nor confirmed the cancelation on their side, so the only way to get more information about the situation is to look out for the promised podcast.
Hopefully, Devine and his co-creators Anders Holm and Blake Anderson can develop a game plan soon to give fans the much-awaited film.
