Nvidia confirms final specs for the upcoming RTX 40 SUPER series cards

Summary

  • Nvidia has revealed the specifications and benchmarks for the upcoming RTX 40 SUPER series cards.
  • One of the four cards – the RTX 4070 SUPER – is confirmed to have 48 MB of L2 cache, 12 MB more than the regular RTX 4070.
  • The other three cards pack quite a punch and seem to be quite viable options for gaming and applications in AI and rendering.

Nvidia’s RTX 40 series GPUs are getting their supes in four SUPER series cards. Traditionally, the SUPER series cards are upgraded forms of the parent cards with more bandwidth, cache memory, VRAM, or higher clock speeds.

The Nvidia RTX 4070 SUPER was believed to have the same 36MB L2 cache as the regular RTX 4070. However, before the January 17th release date, Nvidia clarified that the RTX 4070 SUPER will have 48 MB of L2 Cache. The RTX 4070 SUPER is claimed to be “Faster than RTX 3090 at a fraction of the power.” The RTX 4070 SUPER is priced at USD 599.

Nvidia has mentioned that the RTX 4070 SUPER will be available directly from the Nvidia.com website or their board partners. The board partner variants, as usual, will include factory overclocked models as well.

While the 12MB of extra cache memory might seem inconsequential, it allows the RTX 4070 SUPER to be faster than its parent at just a price of USD 50 more.

Coupled with the same 12 GB of GDDR6X memory on a 192-bit memory bandwidth bus, the RTX 4070 SUPER promises to fulfill most shortcomings that gamers complained of with the RTX 4070.

The second of the four SUPER series cards announced is the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, dubbed “2.5X Faster than the RTX 3070 Ti” on average. The third card is the RTX 4080 SUPER, which Nvidia claims is 2X faster than the RTX 3080 Ti.

One of the best infographics about the RTX 4080 SUPER shows that it’s second in place only to the RTX 4090. In the booming field of AI, Nvidia showcases its prowess.

Nvidia has shown that the RTX 40 SUPER series cards are way ahead of the previous-gen RTX 3080 Ti. The RTX 4080 SUPER is 1.5x faster at generating video in Stable Video Diffusion and 1.7x faster while producing 1024×1024 pixel images. These cards will be quite the force to reckon with and ensure that Nvidia is giving a tough fight to AMD and Intel on the GPU front.
