Writer for Willy’s Wonderland Comments on a Sequel to Cage’s Cult Classic

G.O. Parsons, an actor/filmmaker and writer, had come to LA with hopes of a grand Hollywood success, but only after years of hard work did he hit a big fish. The writer reeled in Nicolas Cage of the Ghost Rider franchise fame with a script that featured Cage’s character at the center of an action-horror adventure without a single dialogue.

Cut to 2022, and the cult classic caught on fame with the film’s dark humor and Cage’s mute performance. Now Parsons has given fans some new hope regarding a possible sequel to the 2021 film. The Willy’s Wonderland writer took to Twitter to say that the sequel is “trending positively,” and he is “working like the Janitor” to see it through.

The film was not a hit with the critics and was on the poor side of the average during its limited theatrical window. But after Hulu bought it, horror fans spread the film like wildfire on social media, and it soon had a cult following.

The film follows a mute drifter who agrees to clean a children’s arcade to get his car fixed. But his peaceful night turns into a nightmare when the characters of the game center are possessed by a psychotic killer’s spirit and his seven acolytes, and he has to hunt them down.

The potential sequel would do great since horror films are trending again after films like M3GAN, Smile, Get Out, and Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. But the sequel is still in the writing process and will still need to be picked up, and Cage has yet to make any comment on his probable return.

Cage has stuck to standalone projects after his grueling but rewarding work on the Ghost Rider series. But considering his commendable performance in the 2021 film, we don’t expect to hear any complaints about Willy’s Wonderland 2.
