ABC’s My Wife and Kids will finally be available on Hulu to stream from July 8 onwards. Whether a rewatch or a first go with the show, this is bound to be a great addition for Hulu.
My Wife and Kids was created by Damon Wayan (who was also in the lead role) with notable TV producer Don Reo. Its five-season run between 2001 and 2005 was well received by the audience and proved to be a hit for the network.
The titled wife is played by Trisha Campbell, who was initially refused for the role. After having sneakily read the script, as she revealed in the Understand This Podcast, she knew this was the show to be in. But even repeated requests did not land her into the cast.
Finally she simply demanded to have a script reading with Wayans, who was not happy at her showing up unannounced. But it worked for the best, for we wouldn’t be able to see anyone but Campbell as Jay on screen!
My Wife and Kids captures the quintessential upper-middle class African-American family in their part hilarious, part dysfunctional and wholly heart-warming ways.
The eldest, middle and youngest kids were played by George O Gore II, Jennifer Freeman (Jazz Raycole for Season 1) and Parker Makenna Posey respectively.
In 2002, it won in two categories at the People’s Choice Awards, in 2003, it won the NAACP Image Award, in 2004, it won the BET Comedy Awards, and we’re sure in 2021 it will win your hearts on Hulu.
