Rick & Morty has repeatedly proved that Morty and Jessica aren’t meant to be, whether with apocalypses or unattainable statuses, like Jessica becoming a god. With the option of them ending up together, the nerdy-plus-popular couple cliche, out of the picture, leaving Rick’s sidekick with one other option – move on.
But isn’t getting over one crush so much easier when you have a new love interest with mutual feelings? Season 6 grants this opportunity to Morty by introducing Noelle Goldenfold, who’s the niece of Mr. Goldenfold, Rick’s arch-nemesis in the comics.
In the comics, Goldenfold creates a more closed-off multiverse of Central Finite Curves, making himself the smartest man alive in all his universes. And this version of Goldenfold is at par with our Rick, and just like Rick has his grandson Morty, Goldenfold has his niece, Noelle.
Fans are totally on board with this new couple since no one really liked the idea of Jessica and Morty getting together, thus taking the predictable yet unbelievable route.
Noelle is probably the only character that knows precisely how Morty feels as a sidekick to the smartest man alive and getting tagged along from one world-ending disaster to another.
Even though Noelle and Morty are much more well-suited, another cliche comes to mind when we think of the two – two lovers from rival families who feel a spark and hit it off, only to end up in a dangerous, possibly fatal, situation. Yeah, we all have heard that, haven’t we?
Knowing the show’s penchant for dark humor, the new relationship can easily become a little more twisted, but I still think Morty and Noelle make a much better endgame couple than Jessica and Morty.
We haven’t seen Noelle on the scene yet, but after the confirmation, I expect we’ll see her soon in the upcoming episodes of season 6. The show, with five complete seasons and the ongoing sixth, is available to stream only on Netflix.
